The Parody News Network was born from the COVID-19 pandemic. Creator Stephen Lomer wanted to film a series, but because of lockdown, there was no way to work with other actors. As PNN was a parody news program, however, the other actors could film their segments individually, and it could all be edited together to look like a show filmed with the performers in the same studio at the same time.
For Series 1, all of the actors filmed remotely due to the pandemic. Series 2 was a mix of remote actors and actors on location at Port Nine Studios. Starting with Series 3, all actors filmed at Port Nine.
Stephen Lomer is always at the anchor desk and has never appeared as a correspondent. The only time he was not featured at the anchor desk was Avengers: Endgame, when he was replaced by Kim Fogelgren. In Halloween, he appeared at the anchor desk, but as a corpse. In A Nightmare on Elm Street, he was replaced at the end by Freddy Krueger. In It's a Wonderful Life, he was joined at the desk by Jim LaVeck. And in Field of Dreams, he was joined by Kim Fogelgren.
Lenore, the goth correspondent who debuted in The Human Centipede, proved so popular with the cast, producers, and fans that she was added to multiple subsequent reports. The character's name, Lenore Pallas, is derived entirely from Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven" - Lenore is the name of the narrator's lost love, and above the chamber door was the bust of Pallas, the Greek Titan, upon which the raven perched.
