Nate
johny_walker_blacklabel1 October 2021
Finally, a realistic arc for a character like Nate. I don't know how many times I've watched shows and movies where an insecure, bullied person suddenly gains a better position or new power and he becomes a benevolent force helping everyone around him.

People don't work like that in real life. People become like Nate. If you've been stepped on all your life, the moment you get power you want to step on people too. You want to release all your pent up shame and feeling of worthlessness. And then maybe, if you work on it, you can return to balance, and become whole. That's why I love this character. Although he makes me cringe, or angry, his arc is so interesting and I'm really curious for his development.

Um screw Nate
bosimmons-703761 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Nate has become a mean person. He was one of my favorite people in the first season but not he thinks he too good for anyone. Selling the nicest sweetest person Ted down the river like that. I hope he learns his lesson.

No Fate But What Nate Makes
paul-13622 October 2021
It's not unusual for the bullied to become the bully, after all it's the only interaction you know and it's more realistic to see him go this way. There's been hints of his underlying rage and nastiness when he threatened Will in Episode 8.

One thing I didn't notice in previous episodes was Nate's grey hair. I'm not sure if this was a deliberate choice of the crew to show him as older, which in turn makes him a more pathetic character having gone nowhere in life until now and still living with mum and dad. I can see why Nick Mohammed was also nominated for an Emmy, a surprising amount of range for the character who started off in the series seeming to be a one dimensional dweeb type character.

It'll be interesting to see which arc the writers take with Nate. Will he become a genuine villain or is redemption possible?

The Empire Strikes Ted Lasso
dan_counts1 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After watching this episode, it gave me the same feeling as when I was 10 after seeing Empire for the first time. A sense of uneasiness, that everything that I thought was rock solid about the show

I have a feeling that the people are going to say that this entire power play by Nate is coming from out of the blue, but it isn't. Starting with the Wonder Kid bit from season 1, to the way he's been treating Will Kitman (besides the 'get it' he's the new lockerroom attendant). The fact he made a move on Keely and then feeding a story to Trent Crimm.

But stepping back from the Nate being a wannabe Palpatine storyline, you have this episode that starts out so happy. Keely being given an expose in Vanity Fair, to Ted setting up a surprise goodbye for Dr. Sharon. I mean seriously it's like the happiest show on Earth like it has always been.

And then by the end, you realize the Roy and Keely are in trouble, Rebecca is still lost when it comes to Sam, Sam may be moving to Morocco (I'm sorry, I don't agree with Edwin Akufo being a "villian" in any sense of the word), and Ted having to deal with Nate utterly destroying the trust he had with Ted (and soon to be found out with Nate). Those same dark clouds, that impending sense of doom that just about everyone had at the end of Empire Strikes Back.

Bravo to Hunt, Sudeikis, Lawerence, and Kelly for a genius episode.

Apologies to Nick Mohammad
truthbrarian2 October 2021
In a previous review I criticized you Nick for what I thought was your lack of acting ability. I want to say I was wrong now that I think you finally have discovered what and where your character is and should go and it wasn't what I imagined for it but you made it better than I imagined. Your version of a bully isn't a screamer its someone who seethes and simmers with resentment and lets it out in nasty ways. The acting I saw this episode was certainly at an Emmy worthy level!

When I saw you spit on yourself in the mirror after kissing Keeley, that made me cringe and I was grossed out at first but honestly, never I have seen such a honest portrayal of someone with worthlessness/self loathing issues like that, this was an honest act from someone unsure how to act, done something wrong, and after having such a hard past and thinking about it, you know there are people out there who feel that kind of way and its sad.

I hope that the ending leans more to the realistic than the sappy if that doesn't spoil things too much. Most people want sappy, its Ted Lasso but I think in this case I wouldn't want things to stay the same.

Great episode guys and the finale should be amazing!

Even though Nate is very cringe...
dannylee-780824 November 2021
He's an expertly written character that is difficult to see in most TV shows. It might be perhaps to say that he's possibly the character most grounded to reality.

A strange episode - not bad at all though.
declantill2 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So for the first time this show left me a little bit unsatisfied with a few things, I thought the writing was slightly off, too many times Ted took things literally or made a stupid joke which on it's rare occasion is normally great and part of his character. Having said that though, I want to see more of Ted, there's far too much behind the mask of coach Lasso that makes me as a viewer want to sink deeper and deeper.

Him and Sharon helped soothe my itch of wanting more Ted in a real human exchange which was heartfelt and got to the roots of why this show is fabulous.

I didn't really care for the Sam/Billionaire plotline as I'm far too invested in Sam/Rebecca and I only really cared about what Sam has to say. The ending though in how Rebecca quickly said her piece and left was really nice and realistic and is why this show is where it is.

Now on to Nate, it's great acting, and great writing, However, I just don't want to hate him, fair enough he's being a horrid man but I wish we could get the unrealistic lovely Nate rather than this (which is good writing). The Roy/Keeley dynamic was a little bit 'did you have to do that' but the writers had them both do things and both own up to them in a nice way + Roy's kind words whilst she was mentally unravelling was really nice.

Just don't think it was as cohesive this episode and seemed a little messy, still the content was mostly good/great and we all hope Nate gets his comeuppance (despite the fact he actually is a good footballing tactician)

Can't wait for next week.

Billionaire
latthraz3 October 2021
Don't see how he is different from his parents as he says when he buys museums and paintings and investing to create the richest African Club in the world while his people are unemployed and in poverty.

Serious WOW
woodvillelite-11 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After viewing this episode I had to recheck to see if there was still one more to go before end of season as this was was what we have come to expect on an end of season cliffhanger. Totally jaw dropping at the end ... OMG!!

Not sure how much will be resolved in next episode but my assumptions are .........
  • Nate was impaired (drunk) or he was talking to another person who knew what had happened and was overheard by Trent by accident AND something real fishy about the millionaire guy

Whether anything gets resolved .... doesnt matter ... GREAT SHOW.

Terrible portrayal of Ghanaian billionaire
gyebi_nana6 October 2021
It was a great episode, finally saw the real Nate I just didn't like how the Akufo character was portrayed, Ghanaians never sound like that Hollywood keeps portraying africa as a country instead of a continent. Not everyone in Africa sounds like a Nigerian or South African.

Totally lost its way
cameroonwood-359235 October 2021
Sadly, this has turned into soap opera and not even good soap opera. And what happened to the football this season? The team is suddenly (and apparently out of nowhere) on the brink of promotion, and yet there's no excitement, no anxiety, no tension etc. The comedy is lacking, the drama is lacking ... I can barely be bothered to turn in for the finale. The IMDB scored are a mystery.

Cliffhangers cliffhangers and more cliffhangers
papilomacacatua1 October 2021
A nice preparation for the end of the season and new scenarios for the third. After a quite peaceful season where most conflicts from season one where settled, we now face new ones. More complex with no obvious outcomes. Everything that may come next episode and season, will be a surprise.

A realistic turn of events
Auroob1 October 2021
Up til the mid of season of season 2, the show was going like a fairytale which became the main reason for people like me (who are sad in real life because reality sucks), their favourite series. It was like an escapism from real world where everything is happy and predictable. But now the reality has struck even in this "happy" show. People show their true nature, most happy relationships are doom to end and life is not how we expect. I hope they end this series as happily as it did last time.

Feel Good Factor is Turning
d-templeton1 October 2021
I honestly cannot explain how good this show is.

I've never been this invested in characters before. I'm terrified of what is going to happen to a certain relationship. The writers have done an incredible job of leaving us feeling suspenseful and scared. Will they bring back the feel good factor next week?

Well the finale will be great don't worry.

transfers!
syed_jazii3 October 2021
Don't get me wrong i love the show but football or any sport's transfers don't happen the way it did in the show. A billionaire can't come in and directly talk to a player! Other than that the character development in this episode is of immense importance lets see how the story unfolds!

A Great Penultimate Episode
nicholasschwarzbeck1 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A great penultimate episode in an already excellent season. All the intertwined plot lines are coming to a head and this episode sets up what I expect to be an exciting finale. A new "villain" is introduced in the form of Edwin Akufo who tries to persuade Sam into leaving Richmond to play in Africa. As a fan I want Sam to be happy, but if he leaves he will put Richmond and the Sam/Rebecca relationship in jeopardy. Ted is also having major problems. Dr. Sharon just left and Trent Crimm is about to publish an article about Ted's panic attacks. To make matters worse it was Nate who spilled the beans. The tension is at its peak and I can't wait for the climactic season finale next week.

Roller-Coaster to Royston
greg-beaulieu1 October 2021
After a few seemingly wasted several episodes on things that did nothing to advance the story, this one crams in as many turning points as possible. Some got the time they deserved, some didn't, but it sets up the season finale and likely a number of cliffhangers for next season as well. Soap opera writing at its finest.

The various booby-traps set in this episode can all go off in various ways so it is fairly hopeless to speculate who they will take out. Some will likely be resolved next week but I suspect most are going to be used in S3. I think the Sam departure will not occur, but who can say for sure. Consequences are surely coming for Nate, but what form they take is uncertain. Since the Roy-Keeley story line has now become a soap opera too, despite what logic may demand that outcome is also in doubt. Ted and his issues seem to have a path to keep them under control but that is also by no means a sure thing. So many balls in the air.

The episode was at least a return to something close to form, especially considering the most recent episodes that preceded it, but the series still has a ways to go. Something remains missing, whether it be charm, or humor, or whatever it was that made S1 so enjoyable. Like some other episodes this season, some of what was here seemed forced. But if nothing else, at least it made me want to watch the next episode.

Confused episode
jakewilkinson1216 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Nate the snake. Last episode should be fun though. It's a strange character turn feels like a late decision. There were no seeds planted regarding Nate's character and then all of a sudden it's red flag after red flag. But like I say it is an interesting bit of drama.

The Ghanaian billionaire storyline and all the not so subtle virtue signalling were quite annoying in this episode.

Raja Casablanca as a world superpower lol. Also why would a Nigerian player want to participate in a Ghanaians project to make a Moroccan team a global team.

Firstly, to move 'home' to Africa? Morocco is extremely far away from Nigeria, different language, religion, culture and they are Arabic so not even similar racially. It's lazy to just group all of Africa as one.

Even the food thing like London doesn't have hundreds of west African restaurants owned and run by West Africans.

Also Nate kissing Keeley, Roy and the teacher etc is a strange subplot.

Episode seemed confused with too many strange and unbelievable storylines going on at the same time.

Needs more Ted
alternateending-760881 October 2021
Good episode, but I feel we are needing an episode soon that is specifically focused on Ted. The development of all the character arcs were good, Nate needs to calm down before he becomes the most hated character on the show; if not already.

Excited for the season Finale, and as I said above I hope Ted is front and center.

This episode is as "good" as it should be.
drlandreneau1 October 2021
Let me begin by saying that 'Ted Lasso' is easily the most rewarding, touching, funny and kind show I've experienced since the 'The Office'. With that said I feel like Season 2 has lacked a bit. I don't know exactly "what" just yet but I'll leave an overall review after the season ends. All in all, out of the few great episodes in Season 2 and (I think it goes without saying) the 10/10 that Season 1 was, this episode is as good as the worst episode in a season should be. I know that may be a harsh statement but I hope you don't take it that way. What I mean is, with an INCREDIBLE SHOW LIKE THIS I believe the worst episode in the season should have THIS MUCH HEART, THIS MUCH STORY, THIS MANY BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS and this. Much. PURPOSE!!! An 8/10 should be the lowest score someone gives on this BREATHTAKING SHOW!!!! I don't know what happened between Season 1&2, and I can only imagine how difficult it is to write such personal and real story lines, BUT this show MEANS SOMETHING, it set a standard with Season 1 and I feel like this season has lacked that until episode 10 & 11. I "BELIEVE" in this show and I care about this show. It's blessed me beyond words. I hope that APPLE TV+ will allow this show and it's creators the time they need to get back to the amazing stride that Season 1 had. To whoever is reading this, thanks for hearing my thoughts. I couldn't recommend this show more to you and I'm AMPED for the season finale and what's to come in Season 3!!! And if you're a writer or creator of this show reading this, thank you for all of your hard work. I feel it when I watch, even when an episode isn't as "good" as I want it to be. Remember though, I'm not the only person watching this show, this is just one honest opinion. Listen to everyone and keep running hard and blessing even harder. You guys rock and I'll always be grateful for the world of rich, touching, KIND, LOVING characters you've created. Keep up the "good" and "INCREDIBLE" work. ;)

Insta: @Darrick.
