Good Show With Andy Griffith
Jimmy_the_Gent428 October 2020
The opening has Merv Grffin surprising Carol. Then guest Andy Griffith does a long monologue about a lion and a mouse.

A very funny VIP sketch has host Lyle interviewing the King sisters. They were a group of family singers who did many TV specials around this time. Funniest scenes has Harvey as Becky and Isabel Sanford (The Jeffersons) as Beulah.

Carol recites a poem called "Pink" sent in by a little girl. She sings a poignant song about child like things.

A funny sketch has Carol as the wife of policeman Andy. He shoots out the lock, frisks her and uses tear gas.

A pantomime scene has Vicki and one of the dancers playing Gladys and Tyrone, the characters made famous by Ruth Buzzi and Arte Johnson, who also show up in person at the end.

Carol and Sis scene has Roger watching football and ignoring them, he does notice the cute blond neighbor (Elaine Joyce).

The finale is a hillbilly version of Cinderella. Carol is Cinderrelly, Harvey is the Fairy Godfather and Andy is Mr Prince. Carol wears glass roller skates.

Carol sing her theme, and Andy is joined by Isabel Sanford and Elaine Joyce in signing her book. She also roller skates around a bit.

I love this episode

Warning: Spoilers
This is a fantastic episode that made me laugh out loud and stands out as one of my favorites.

Any time Harvey Korman is in drag it never ceases to make me laugh, and he does so twice in this episode. Andy Griffith is so charming and wholesome and funny as well. The King family of blonde sisters is just hilarious. In this episode Carol performs a serious song about growing up as a little girl. It isn't funny. But it is the most moving song I've seen her perform, and she has performed so many beautiful songs.

But the highlight of this episode for me is the appearance of the "fairy godfather" during the Cinderellie sketch (Hillbilly Cinderella set in "Missibama"). Harvey Korman is so "extra" he really plays the part well. I could not stop laughing.

Note on offensive jokes: There are a few jokes in this episode about race and sexuality. But they are mostly done in a satirical/ironic fashion (as in, not condoning the racism or sexism but mocking it). The depiction of the "fairy godfather" as a gay man may be offensive to some. I feel it is worth noting these things for today's discerning viewer.
