- Kevin O'Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, Daymon John, Robert Herjavec
Marian Cruz, Turbobaster. $ 35 K for 30%. A mechanized baster that will replace the traditional baster, the basting brush and other kitchen utensils used at thanksgiving. But she doesn't have a working prototype, only a video of how this will work. She doesn't know how much it will cost to make, but wants to sell it for $ 19.99 for regular and $ 29.99 for stainless steel. As Marian has no idea of her business, O'Leary, Barbara, Herjavec drop out. Harrington sees potential in the eventual product and offers $ 35 K for 100%, with 2% royalty to Marian. Daymon wants 51% for $ 50 K and 2% royalty paid to him. Marian goes with Harrington.
Bryan Parks, Chopstick Art from Eugene Oregon. He is an artist and environmentalist. $100 K for 10%. 25 Bn pairs of chopsticks discarded in the world annually. Bryan designed products from discarded chopsticks. baskets for fruits is his best seller. sells for $7, $12, $20 and $30. In 5 yrs he has done $ 500 K in sales, $ 300 K in sales in 12 months. Has invested $ 100 K of his own money. Harrington doesn't see the sales potential and goes out. Herjavec says the same thing that this is not the next $ 100 M idea. This is a niche thing and goes out. O'Leary is also out as he netted only $ 45 K. Daymon and Barbara also opt out.
Lori Lite, stress free kids. Has 3 kids and has designed a product that helps to put kids to sleep at night. She has a mortgage on her house and shares a car with her husband as her business needs money upfront. $ 250K for 20%. Lori applied stress management techniques to kids to get them to sleep at night. her product is CDs and books that help manage stress. In last 12 mths, sales of 30 K units, $ 180K in sales, $ 50 K in profit. She didn't go with a publisher as the first 2 books she gave to a publisher didn't sell well (as they didn't market her properly) and gave a poor royalty. Lori has invested $ 200K of her own money. Lori wants to use the money for more advertising on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and so on. Herjavec says that since Lori doesn't have an inventory issue, he is out & so is Harrington. O'Leary offers $250 K for 100% and when Lori refuses, he opts out. Daymon offers $ 250 K for 51% and Barbara offers $ 250 K for 50%. Lori counters at 40%. Both Barbara and Daymon refuse, so Lori accepts Barbara's offer.
Ken Bradford, 50 state capitals. $ 155 K for 10%. He has a stack of cards that help kids remember state capitals through clever word & picture associations. But he has no sales & is only a prototype. O'Leary, Barbara, Harrington, Daymon and Herjavec are out.
Jeff & Josh Cohen, Voyage Air Guitar: $ 500 K for 5%. Basically made a guitar that folds in half with a patented hinge. Sold 800 units since January, $ 400 K in sales, and cash flow negative. Herjavec wants Jeff to license the tech to a guitar manufacturer and rake in royalties. Jeff offers the patent to Herjavec for 49% for $ 1 MM (still retaining 51% of the patent rights). O'Leary offers $ 500 K for 51% just for the patent. Jeff tries to negotiate with Barbara, but she is out. Daymon feels that Jeff is confused, so he is out as well. Jeff rejects the deal at 51%, and both O'Leary and Herjavec opt out
