Just tuning into episode 1. Wall to wall elevator music under all of the interviews with glitchy graphical newspaper headlines treated in lowbrow tabloid format. The narrative bites from the journalists feel neatly prepared and stodgy. I don't blame the subjects one bit, that is not my critique.

No wonder they did no advance press for this series. Whatever discoveries lie ahead to be learned, its perceived credibility won't benefit by this painful attempt at filmmaking.

This is simply awful. I had to give up after the first 10 minutes. I could not take the patronising tone coupled with constant background music. I have to say more to reach 150 characters but really simply do not bother.

Episode 1

With JJ Abrams as producer. I expected the first episode to be serious documentary series.

There is a reference to a 2017 New York Times article that shed light on the Pentagon monitoring UFO activity.

There are references to Roswell and Project Blue Book. All seriousness evaporates as some of the contributors appear to be flaky.

There was that shot of the Governor mocking UFO sightings when some thought he was going to open an investigation. Later they thought he capitulated under some sort of duress.

The structure was chaotic. It was like Abrams was trolling its audience.

I expected to see a documentary with more substance and with a better narrative.

Not good.

I don't often rate episodes... but this one needs it. The opening sequence of clickbate videos is full of known fakes. There are only a few genuine videos there, so that pretty much sets the tone of this episode. Episode 1 is like watching something from the early 90s when UFO just got viewers... there is zero substance. If you have never seen anything on UFOs or have had no interest in them before 2021 this might be a decent intro to the subject. Welcome to the conspiracy. But for anyone who knows the least little bit about the subject this is nothing but a disinformation effort to provoke conspiracy theorists and further the stigma of "wacky UFO enthusiast" upon anyone who takes this stuff seriously. It's a joke. Don't bother.
