Short (25min) film about a the first ever powerboat race entirely around the British Isles in 1969.
Date of release also listed as 1969.
The race comprised 10 stages (geographically clockwise), starting and finishing in the historic naval port of Portsmouth. Forty-two boats of widely diverse size and design took part.
This film was used as a BBC2 Trade Test Transmission (one of many-repeated filler movies to test new colour broadcasts) circa 1971-1973.
This and other shorts became dearly loved by those who watched them, because they were perhaps the first shows ever to be repeated many times, back long before TV repeats became standard fare, and because they often featured spectacular adventures.
Subject material for this and other Trade Test Shorts is very comparable in style and content to those which became staples of early IMAX movies in the 1990s.
Music credit is a huge 'easter egg' of music trivia: Jeff Wayne, who later found fame composing 'War of the Worlds'.
Credited to Ford motor company.
Race was sponsored by the Daily Telegraph and BP.
The movie is available in three parts on youtube, and more information is available on Trade Test Transmission shorts in other websearches.
