As George and Conrad are leaving, George opens the back door of the car, but in the next shot after Edith and Audrey drive away, he's getting into the front seat. (at about 1:33 in the movie...)
'Feckless' means 'ineffectual', not 'pointless', as Edith erroneously offers to Audrey in the crossword puzzle scene, and as Conrad later misuses the word.
