Just Intensely Dull
Jim Acosta seems like a nice guy, and he's a competent reporter. Yet, his Saturday "CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta" has to be one of the most boring news programs on cable, rivaled only by anything hosted by Sarah Sidner, Kaitlyn Collins, or Fredericka Whitfield. It's not just the content -- which is dull -- but the presentation. There's a big difference between CNN's personalities trying too hard to mug for the camera -- looking at you, Alisyn Camerota -- and having no charisma at all. Worse, Acosta often seems like he's been tranquilized.
I don't get it. While CNN has been shaky for a while, all the changes in the last year or so have just made the network worse. I mean, a monkey throwing darts at a board with staff names on it couldn't have shaken things up any worse.
And what is it about the same dozen or so stories being reported over and over and over? There's a world of 7 billion people and hundreds and hundreds of countries. Are you seriously telling us nothing else happened other than a handful of news stories?
I know, I know. Why am I watching cable when the Internet exists? That's a good question. While the Internet is pretty sketchy for news, it's true that television just gets worse each year. It was less amateur hour in the late 1940s when it debuted -- and back then, it was almost literally amateur hour as they weren't sure what they were doing. But clearly the people in charge of CNN and producing the programming have no clue what they're doing. They're just cashing big checks.
