Quotes

  • 909 : There's our suspect. His number's 1955.

6 : And what makes him a suspect?

    909 : We had a report.

    6 : How do I find out if he's a Dreamer?

909 : Get close. You have a position here. Teacher. You start today. Be careful. 1955 might be an undercover himself. He may be compiling a dossier on you.

  • 909 : [surveilling 1955's home]  The towel is probably a coded signal.

6 : Maybe he's just hanging it out to dry. Signal to who?

    909 : The others.

6 : What, like a group of them? Organized? They meet, plot? Did one of the suspects tell you this?

    909 : No one's admitted it. Yet. But once you're a suspect, you're guilty.

  • 11-12 : How did we get to this place?

    909 : It's a good place, though, isn't it? A safe place.

    11-12 : Safe?

909 : Hey. No one's gonna touch you.

    11-12 : It's good.

    909 : What?

11-12 : This. I mean, you choosing me.

909 : I seem to recall it was you chose me.

  • 6 : [after witnessing 1955 attempt suicide]  Kind of makes you wonder... if he'd do that to himself... maybe he is guilty.

    909 : You're catching up fast.

6 : Is that how it works? Is that how Dreamers are caught?

909 : That's the way I was shown. You decide.

  • 909 : You okay there?

6 : Do I look okay to you?

909 : What do they call you?

    6 : They call me 6.

909 : Well, 6... it's not wise to hang around here.

    6 : Well, I wouldn't wanna be not wise, would I?

  • 909 : Your father's watching you. He knows you go out at night. You'll lose your guards.

    11-12 : Am I being followed?

909 : He wants me to follow you.

    11-12 : It's good that it's you.

909 : He suspects you might be meeting with 6.

11-12 : Why would he think that?

    909 : I don't know.

  • 909 : A man finds himself senseless in some back alley, I'd say he has a problem with the drink or trouble with a lover. My guess, it's a lover.

  • 909 : Joggers, good place to go looking for Dreamers. Usually, one of the newcomers. Someone a bit too eager. Pushing themselves too hard. Right at the front. Running like they wanna get away from something.

  • 909 : Undercovers work in cells. Twos, threes, fours. You and I are a cell. First rule, tell no one about your cell. We don't know the other cells, they don't know us.

6 : That means everyone could be an undercover. Every single person in the Village. So someone could be investigating you right now. Another undercover cell.

    909 : It's a possibility, yeah, I suppose.

  • 2 : [discovering he's under surveillance]  It must be an undercover. Someone with a roach cam. There's so many undercovers, it could be anyone. It could be you.

909 : Huh. 6. He's different. He's not like the other suspects. He has, uh...

    2 : Yes? Say it.

    909 : Conviction.

2 : No harm must come to 6. He must survive. But he can suffer. His work as an undercover must make him feel compromised, hmm? Has 6 ever met up with my son?

909 : 11-12? Why would he be meeting with 6?

2 : Youth is susceptible to wild ideas. Young blood craves rebellion as much as it craves sex.

    909 : 11-12 spying on you? No.

2 : No. No, of course not. Still, let's keep an eye on him. For his own protection.

  • 909 : [survelling 1955]  Question: why does he go swimming after work?

6 : Answer: because he likes swimming.

    909 : We're looking at a man who doesn't wanna go home.

6 : And that makes him suspicious?

909 : He knows he's being watched. Everything is suspicious if you look at it properly. Everyone has secrets. No one is without guilt. We just have to work out what it is they're guilty of.

6 : Why don't you arrest him and ask him if he's a Dreamer?

909 : Well, that would produce nothing but confusion. He would lie. If I catch him out in his lying, then he tells new lies and then more new lies. It's better to watch him. Wait 'til his guilt emerges.

    6 : Who reported him?

909 : One of his students. We don't know which one. Reports come in anonymously for the safety and protection of the informant.

    6 : [dryly sarcastic]  That's nice.

  • 6 : Got any family, 909?

909 : Family? No. I was never much good at relationships.

6 : I guess undercovers don't like to get too close to people. Something too human about that, huh?

  • 909 : We should stop for a while. A few weeks, that's all. I don't think your father suspects us, but we should be careful...

11-12 : My father suspects everyone.

909 : Yeah. But not us. Not if we're careful. Come here.

6 : [coming in as they hug]  You sent those photographs to 313. Why?

    909 : I-I didn't send any photographs. 313 is not my mission.

6 : I want all surveillance taken off 313. I want her left alone.

    909 : I can't give you that.

6 : [looking at 11-12]  But you can. I want 313 to be safe. That's my price for keeping what I know to myself.

  • 909 : [6 finds him bleeding out after being stabbed by 11-12]  Don't blame him. Tell me the dreams are true.

    6 : They're true. They're all true.

909 : There are Dreamers. They meet. I'm sure of it. Find them.
