Some of my very favorite documentaries are ones that take something seemingly mundane and make it seem so very important or noble. A TASTE OF NATE and POST OFFICE 50 (of 169) are good examples of this--little films that manage to convey a lot more than you'd think any film maker could get from the topic.
The topic at hand is the closing of one particularly community post office in a region of London called "Dockhead". The importance of this tiny post office is explained through many interviews with the locals and they explain how it has given the neighborhood a sense of identity and connection. This same issue is seen in many places in recent years with the advent of email--for example, here in the States, many post offices are being scheduled for closure as well because less and less people are mailing letters.
This documentary is well constructed and shows a nice directorial touch. See it. It won't change your life but is a nice example of a little film that manages to draw the viewer into this small part of the world.
