In the pilot episode, we meet with the founders of Mykke Hofmann, a female design collective with Balkan roots, headquartered in Munich and sold in over 40 stores worldwide. JELENA HOFMANN and SEDINA HALILOVIC have made great entrepreneurial strides in the eight short years since they debuted, but social and economic obstruction, not a lack of determination, has made their journey difficult. As part of their mandate, they've established their production site in Umcari, a suburban settlement just outside Belgrade, Serbia. They're giving back to the local community by supporting new infrastructure - like building and paving roads, employing local residents and paying on average 30% above minimum wage - and in doing so, set a precedent that activates fair and equitable practices, which in turn create long-lasting relationships founded in trust in their community.
