Plot Summary

1945, at what most assume is the near end of the war. British Captain Norwood has hand picked a six-man team for a reconnaissance mission of an abandoned airfield in Southern Germany. It isn't until they approach their destination that he informs the team of the true mission: to repatriate American scientist, Professor Hopper, who has been living in Germany for twenty-five years. The only other person on the team that was in the know is one of the two civilians, American scientist Bob Connor, who would be able to identify Hopper and verify his materials, They are not only to bring him back to the west to continue his important work, but to bring back any associated materials of that work, namely the development of an atomic bomb. In what was supposed to be a relatively quiet part of the country, they discover that the Nazis have created new militia unit largely comprised of local young men, arguably partly to hide Hooper. In the process, the team has to figure which locals they can or should not trust. Beyond the regular perils of war, the team also has the issue of the difference between mercenary Norwood who as leader is all about completion of the mission, and Jack Wallace, a decorated war hero who cannot help but see the effect of the war on humanity, including his own, as he sees visions of among the casualties of war his own daughter Martha, he, if he is able to make it home to her, not wanting her to see a different, inhuman person in her father. Trivia The truck used by the protagonists is an actual vintage truck of WWII Germany. On the rear panel of the truck are the white painted words, "Abstand 100M", which translates into, "Stay back 100 meters". This message is a legal requirement in modern Europe for slow moving vehicles, including historical vehicles, that have limited rear view. See more »
Goofs In one scene, combatants are seen hiding behind a genuine German car called a "Kübelwagen". This vehicle is likened to a "mini-moke". It's panels are made of thin aluminium, and yet, somehow the bullets ricochet off the thin alunimium panels. See more »
