Emotional and insightful

A very very good documentary highlighting domestic abuse, both from the 70s / 80s and how it compares to now. Some people won't watch this because they hate Football / Footballers, but look at Marcus Rashford or similar, and see how these high profile sports people are using their platform to highlight these sorts of things. I'm a 40+ year old man, and I had a wonderful childhood, and this documentary brought me to tears, multiple times.

Perfect childhood

This documentary is Ian looking back at his childhood and processing past traumatic encounters and moving forward. I think most people can relate to bad times, but Ian comes to terms with what his father did and his father's abuse and his mother's own struggle to raise him and his brother. It would have been good if his brother was with him on this journey, but it was being recorded. It was good that he can forgive his parents and move on be a great father. It's also good to see people talk about this, but normally the police have to deal with domestic abuse and people don't always get support.

Powerful, brilliant documentary...

This is an amazing documentary that took me by surprise. The topic was tackled with such honesty, sensitivity and empathy that I was left in awe. Early in the documentary Ian Wright recognises and gets overwhelmed at the complexity of the issue, but I never thought the programme would be so brave to show domestic violence from so many different angles, including an empathetic view from a father who struggles with his own anger, seeking help. This is what we need to see. The impact that teachers have on children was also truly humbling; the programme should be mandatory viewing for everyone working in education to remind them of a) the influence they have, and b) the importance of recognizing and responding when children aren't happy. It takes a community to raise and support a happy human being.

Thoughts after Watching the documentary home truths. Incredibly important, moving and pertinent piece of work. Thank you for making this and helping others Ian. This is a must watch for anybody wanting to gain a better understanding of the unfortunate world some people have to live in behind closed doors. Hopefully documentaries like this can go at least a small way to affect positive change for those affected.
