Beginning was interesting, end was poor

Warning: Spoilers
This was interesting enough, and I appreciated that they didn't take the easy out of making Allen the bad guy -- I pretty much assumed he was going to be mean and biased. But the ending? There was no point to what he did. At first I thought he was going to show that he was an amazing singer or something (which had nothing to do with the problem) or sing something that made a point. But if no one there understood the words, it really helped in no way, and probably only lowered everyone's opinion of him. I mean, if he either stood up and announced that he wasn't taking the job because of what happened, fine. Or if he took it and maybe showed them he actually WAS the right person for the job? But no... He just ended up looking silly and unfit for the position, probably making it harder for the next international student who might apply.

Exciting and awkward

Warning: Spoilers
As a Chinese international student, I am so excited to see that American TV show has finally put eyes into this group where students struggling in the conflict of Chinese culture and Western culture, finding their roles, and seeking to be a better person.

The first half is exactly the situation we may encounter, which is if we want to be better, there will be negative emotions from some people around us. I am so nervous about the dinner serving time, when the main role practice clients' name over and over again, and finally does it with a smile. That is exactly what I would do if I am in the situation, and I would definitely make mistakes. However, it feels extremely awkward in the the last part when they sing the songs on the stage. I mean, most of Chinese students may just swallow their emotions and take whatever they will get and leave the leadership position shortly afterward. It is understandable that in the limited time the story needs an ending, but that is never what I would do if I am in the situation. Not even my Chinese friends would get on the stage singing with me.

Overall, I would consider this a good show, but not so good as well.

So cringey and pathetic

Warning: Spoilers
Scene at the end was so pathetic and not empowering at all. Main character encounters racial mistreatment so what's his plan? Yell off-tune karaoke in a foreign language during a dinner service with guests completely irrelevant to your situation. You sure told them! All while your mom is working hard to pay for your private education. How did this make it onto Disney.

Huh???

Warning: Spoilers
As someone who came to the US as an international student, I was pretty excited to watch this show. Unfortunately, I couldn't help cringing throughout. A note to the protagonist: You're not exactly making a political statement if no one understands what you're talking about.

Just Embarrassing!

Warning: Spoilers
How can anyone watch this and actually think that the main character is standing up for his principles? If I was in his position, I would have taken the job. I'm sure the writers would like to think they are making some huge moral statement. All it does is perpetuate the victim looking like a fool. For anyone who really wants to make a difference, put yourself in a position where you are able to make a difference, first!
