- The police investigate the murder of Richard Tanner who was stabbed and found dead in the model village in Little Worthy tied to the ground like Gulliver from Gulliver's Travels. He was found by the grounds-keeper and model maker Ben Moss who has worked for the owners, sisters Hillary and Harriet Comptom. Tanner wasn't very well liked in the village and was viewed as a troublemaker by many. He was known to have had romantic entanglements with the local school teacher Rebecca Rix and Krista Palfrey, daughter of the local hotel owner Edward Palfrey. He wasn't very pleased with his daughter's relationship Tanner and he didn't like the way Krista treated his girlfriend, Berrnice, leading to a tension-filled home situation. - Senior model maker Ben Moss happily manages the miniature village, owned like half of in tiny Little Worthy town by the spinster crones Hilary and Harriet Compton, until he finds there the corpse, tied-up with tent picks in Gulliver style, of fatally stabbed womanizer Richard Tanner, a notorious opponent of novelties, like Harriet. His latest relationships were with primary teacher Rebecca Rix, whose class recently chose Gulliver as drawing theme, and Krista Palfrey, rebel daughter of the local hotel owner Edward Palfrey, who leans heavily on devoted ex-con employee and lover Bernice since his wife left him. Richard's sister Jackie Tanner's shop provided the pegs for the murder and the Neptune trident which is later used during the annual costumed boat race to murder its wearer, another womanizer. Before Barnaby and Ben can close the case, having dug up old secrets of the heart, grumpy Harriet is also murdered.—KGF Vissers
