On the Other Side

Summaries

  • A day unfolds to find two worlds collide. One, of a homeless woman seemingly never beyond contempt and despair. The other, of a stranger who looks so much like her, yet seems to be navigating life on far more promising terms. Their chance encounter reveals the tenuous divide between the best and worst of what life has to offer.—A.G. King

Synopsis

  • On any given day as many as 600,000 men, women and children in this country have no place to call home, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. With so many people existing without even this basic necessity, how can anyone continue to say that homelessness is not his or her problem? How can anyone remain naïve to the scope of this social malignancy? Indeed, it is the premise that what eats away at one segment of the population, in fact, eats away at us all that underscores "On The Other Side." Inspired by actual circumstances, this narrative takes a look at a day in the life of a homeless woman (Kim Czas). Using song rather than spoken dialogue to tell her story, the woman's world unfolds to reveal a reality pocked with rejection, contempt and despair. That is, until a glimmer of hope begins to emerge as she finally encounters a stranger (Yanni Kuznia) who looks so much like her, but seems to have made her way through life on far more promising terms. When all is said and done, "On The Other Side" illustrates how the difference between successfully navigating life, or falling prey to its many pitfalls, is often just a decision away.
