- The All-Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament is about to begin, and the dojos are introduced. Daniel and Johnny remind their students of whats at stake, if they lose, both dojos close forever. Johnny notices Miguel is off, and says that he knows Sam and him are in a rough patch (not remembering his drunken rant from the other night). He tells Miguel to focus up so they can win. Kreese and Silver motivate their students to show no mercy, and the skills competition begins. All dojos do well, with Demetri and Sam helping Miyagi-Do gain an early lead, and Miguel carrying his team forward. However, Cobra Kai eventually proves victorious over Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fangs less experienced students, and catches up to first quickly, leaving Miyagi-Do in second, and Eagle Fang in sixth. Devon tells Johnny that to add up enough points to win the overall tournament, they have to win as many qualifying matches as possible. Before the qualifier rounds start, the president of the board at the All-Valley enters and introduces a special guest to help kick off the competition: Carrie Underwood, singing Moment of Truth by Survivor. The dojos fight their way up the ranks during the qualifiers, and Samantha, Eli, and Demetri make it to the Quarter Finals for Miyagi-Do. However, during Chris' match with Kyler, Daniel notices that the Cobras are using Miyagi-Do techniques against the other students, and puts together that Robby taught them what Daniel taught him, specifically to counter Miyagi-Do's students. Miguel and Devon make it through to the Quarter Finals for Eagle Fang, along with Robby, Kyler, Kenny, Tory, and Piper for Cobra Kai. Miguel beats his opponent to get through to the Semi Finals, but Devon is taken out by Tory, leaving Eagle Fang with no one left to compete in the Girls Division. Devon vows to come back and dominate the competition next year, and tells Johnny that if Miguel makes it to the final and wins, they still have a chance of Eagle Fang taking the trophy. Daniel confronts Robby about teaching Cobra Kai the Miyagi-Dos defenses. Robby says he'll do anything it takes to win. Daniel tells him that winning won't help him get back at the people who've hurt him, and leaves him with one last lesson. "Never put passion in front of principle. Because even if you win, you lose." Demetri wins his match to make it to the Semis, leaving Eli to fight Kyler. Eli is unsure about the fight, but Moon reminds him who he his and kisses him before the match, giving Eli his old confidence. He faces Kyler and wins easily, putting himself through to the Semi Finals as well. Next it's Sam's turn, matching against Piper. Piper counters all of Sam's defenses and scores a point, mocking her by telling her Robby taught them that without Miyagi-Do's defense, they are helpless. Sam decides to use her training from Johnny and completely turns the fight around, defeating Piper by fighting hard and aggressive. She goes through, but Daniel notices her using Eagle Fang techniques and tells her thats not how they win. Sam insists it's her choice too. For the last Quarter Final match, it's Kenny vs Robby. Robby encourages his protege, saying no matter what, he's proven himself. Kenny thanks Robby for his guidance, and they face off. Kenny scores the first point, and Kreese calls Robby over. Kreese tells Robby to stop taking it easy on Kenny, and reminds him what it will take if Robby wants to win. Robby returns to the ring with determination, and shows no mercy to Kenny, fighting ferociously and taking the match. Kenny is slightly injured, and Robby feels remorse for hurting his friend.
Daniel congratulates Miguel on using Miyagi-Do to make it to the Semi Final, but Johnny sends his student to prepare. Daniel confronts Johnny for training Samantha behind his back, and they tell eachother to stay away from their kids. The first Semi Final match is Eli vs Miguel. Johnny tells Miguel to give no quarter so they can win, but Miguel reminds Johnny that Eli is his friend, even if he and Daniel are rivals. He and Eli shake hands and start the fight, but they are evenly matched. They fight to a draw, but as Miguel attempts a complicated kick, his previous back injury acts up, leaving him on the floor in agony.
