Moral Ambiguity Is Human Perfection
masterful direction transforms what may seem a mere temporal guise into a multi-layered, complex porait of moral ambiguities in the destruction of the physical body as an object of simple observation and consumption. The interjection of historical elements strengthens the premise, while the strong direction and visual style convey a society in which the body is stripped of humanity in place of its rational/economic value. Disposing with overbearing dialogue, the film subtly conveys both the underlying philosophical implications of the source material, while drawing on personal experiences to create a film haunting in both its moral ambiguity and its hopelessness.
Strong direction, and a beautiful vision of a morally complex novel.
