Cesar uses Chloroform on Clara using a cloth, several times. She is rendered unconscious in seconds, yet when Cesar spills it straight on his face he is able to stagger around the apartment and even make it to the bathtub.
The depiction of chloroform use is typical of movie/TV depictions of the chemical's anesthetic properties. In reality, it takes at least five minutes of inhaling an item soaked in chloroform to render a person unconscious., and after the subject has lost consciousness, a continuous volume must be administered and the chin must be supported to keep the tongue from obstructing the airway, a difficult procedure typically requiring an anesthesiologist.
