Driver (The Rock) is carrying a Ruger Alaskan in .454 Casull revolver. There's no way it would do the minimal damage portrayed in the movie especially when he shot the dirty old man/pedophile/snuff film maker in the head. It would have blown the top of his skull off.
In the opening credits, as Driver retrieves the car, just after reading the map and papers, a revolver is shown under the seat. As it is lifted, you can see 2 hollow-point rounds from the front. But next, when he opens the cylinder and spins it, you can see that all the primers have been fired.
