The General Electric Company presents this dramatization about household labor saving appliances. The Forrest family moves to house in a new town, but the husband doesn't tell the wife or her kids what the house is going to look like. Recently pregnant Ellen Forrest is impressed with the modern, efficiently electrified house, only to find that the house her husband bought is larger, nearly 40 years older, and has an electrical system only designed for lights and appliances from 1920. When Milt offers to hire an old Swedish maid named Mrs. Swenson, even she refuses to take the job, because the house is too much for her. Will the Forrests' find a way to make due with what they have, or will Mrs. Forrest become so overwhelmed by the inconveniences that she becomes sick?
