Barry lies in the cyropod at STAR Labs, and the Speed Force looks at him. She tells Iris, Caitlin, and Cisco that she's giving Barry all of her strength to heal him, but she'll still be weak because of the attacks on her. The Speed Force tells the others that when she was reborn, she was surrounded by light and love. Then she felt pain from the other two Forces, and could sense that they were evil unlike her. The Speed Force thinks that they were trying to feed on her, and she sought out Barry so he could keep her safe until she recovered. The Speed Force warns that if the other two Forces find he3r, she won't survive another attack.
Chester comes in and stares at the Speed Force, realizing what it is despite its current human appearance. She introduces herself and Cisco asks Chester how the isotope detection system is coming. He brings up the system on a computer monitor, says that they need to place them around the city, and then they'll have a warning if Psych or Fuerza come toward them, and which one they are. Cisco says that they can build them as they go, and he and Chester go to work.
Later, Caitlin returns to her apartment and finds Frost going over some of the art that she had brought in from a safehouse. Frost isn't happy with the painting that Caitlin brought, and tears it in the center and says it's much better. Caitlin isn't thrilled.
Cisco and Chester go out in a field and set up their first sensor. Chester suggests that they go to nearby Masonville to get some coffee, and tells Cisco that he used to live there until he moved to Central City with his grandmother when Chester was in high school.
They turn on the sensor and it filter. A green wave of energy sweeps over them, but apparently doesn't do anything. Cisco gets the sensor to work, and then he and Chester realize that their cell phones have disappeared, along with their fan. When Chester tries to walk toward the van, he slams into an invisible barrier. Cisco realizes there is an invisible dome over nearby Masonville.
At STAR Labs, the Speed Force checks on Barry and asks Iris how she deals with the pressure of constant danger. Iris assures the Speed Force that Barry will recover by the next day. She then takes the Speed Force with her to show her something.
Cisco and Chester walk into Masonville, and spot a Blockbuster Video that doesn't exist in their present, a theater showing a 1998 movie, and a high school that was torn down before Chester left. Cisco realizes that they've time traveled, and Chester is thrilled.
After Cisco and Chester get some food, they walk through Masonville and try to work out what is going on. They both think it's awesome, but Cisco points out that they need to find a way back to 2021. He realizes that the sensor detected temporal isotopic energy, and figures there's a new Force that can travel time. They need a new component to make a sensor, and Chester spots a Tech Station and says that it's time to go stopping.
They go to a nearby back alley and Chester searches through a dumpster, finding some junk that would let him use to repurpose their sensor to spot the new force. The energy leads them to Masonville High School, and Chester warns that they have to blend in. They go through the lost and found and get some period clothing, and walk through the school. Cisco and Chester start asking questions, looking for a time spike.
They question an athlete, who says that his teammate Deon Owens is going to kill it in the state championship the next day. Cisco and Chester do get a reading from the towel boy, Parker, and go over to talk to him. Cisco mentions that they like the movie 'The Matrix', and Parker says that it hasn't come out yet. When Cisco asks him how he knew that, Parker tells the duo that they need to help him because they're trapped in the same day, and "it" knows that he's broken free.
Time resets, and Cisco and Chester find themselves back on the same street. Cisco doesn't remember who Chester is or what happened to them, and yells "stranger danger". Chester confirms that Cisco has reverted to the age of 7, because he still thinks it's 1998.
Cisco runs off and Chester chases after him and catches up to him. He tells Cisco all the things that happened to him in the future, and Cisco's memories come back. They run back to the dumpster and realize that they're caught in a time loop, and when Parker "woke up0" he reset the loop. The sensor shielded Chester the first time, but it was damaged in the dumpster the second time. Chester suggests that they go to his grandmother's to get the part to fix the sensor, and Cisco agrees. They find a newspaper that says it's December 4, 1998, and Chester says the parts are someplace better.
Iris takes the Speed Force to her apartment and shows her the blanket that Barry likes to wrap himself in the memories and comfort associated with the blanket. The Speed Force wraps herself in the blanket, and Iris says that Nora made it for Barry. Iris explains that Barry doesn't like to talk about Nora much because it reminds him of the violence of her murder, and the Speed Force sees a photo of Barry and his parents and speeds off.
In 1998, Cisco and Chester go to a tech store and Cisco discovers that they just sold the last power converter to a man. Chester sees the man and tells Cisco that they can't go after him, and tells Cisco that the man is his father, and Chester is the last person he'd want to help.
The duo go to the high school and Cisco gets Chester to explain. Chester says that his father was an inventor who traveled trying to get rich on his inventions, and never had time for his son. On December 5, Chester's father dies in a car accident. Cisco suggests that Chester is there for a reason, and it could be his chance to talk to his father. Chester figures that he shouldn't and just has to do keep doing his thing, and Cisco tells his friend that he'll get the converter part from Chester's father. He asks if that's what Chester wants, and Chester hesitated.
In 2021, Iris finds the Speed Force at Jitters, where she knew that Barry might be there. The Speed Force wonders what she's done by looking like Nora, because she can't keep hurting him like that. Iris tells her that the Speed Force is giving Barry a gift, and she's a happy reminder. The Speed Force thanks Iris for her advice.
In 1998, Chester goes to the work shed where his father Pops is working. Chester asks to buy the converter, and says that the clerk at the tech shop told him that Pops had the last one. Pops says that he needs the converter for the invention, but then says that he's throwing it away. He explains that his son Chester is working on a science project due in two days, and he'll need the part. But Pops will be on the road, he's leaving it for Chester to find. He says that he's doing tit to teach Chester how to find treasure where other people see trash, and he does a lot of things for his son.
Chester asks if Pops resents having to work so hard 24/7, and Pops says that Chester is worth any sacrifice he has to make. He figures that when it comes to Chester, he doesn't believe in quitting. Chester figures that Pops cares about his work because of his son, and Pops says that he's just a man trying to do the right thing, and make his son proud. Chester hugs Pops, who thinks it's weird, and Chester says that he hopes he'll be as good a father as Pops is.
Pops says that he's still not selling Chester the converted, but puts a piece together. Later, Chester meets with Cisco and shows him the piece they put together. Deon storms in and says that they don't belong there, releases a burst of green energy, and says that they have to go.
Deon complains that they ruined his perfect day, and releases another burst of energy. The energy appears in 2021 and causes Frost and the apartment to revert to the 60s.
In 1998, Deon says that he got injured and taken out in the first quarter, and the second-stringer won the game. Deon came back to the past because he has no future. Cisco blasts him with the sensor, but Deon just laughs snaps his fingers and destroys the device by erasing it from time.
Joe goes to Star Labs and meets with Caitlin. He's in 1940s clothes, and she's in a 1980s power suit. arrives, and Iris--wearing 1960s clothes and hair--and the Speed Force arrive. An alarm goes off and Caitlin confirms the temporal energy is spreading though the city.
The T-Rex confronts Natalie, who runs as it roars at her and goes after her.
Caitlin traces the energy to Masonville, and realizes they're dealing with a new Force.
In 1998, Deon prepares to reset the time loop. He summons green energy, and Cisco tells Chester that they have to run. Chester says that he doesn't believe in quitting.
In 2021, Caitlin says that the new Force is rewinding time at random and they can't stop it. If the team gets caught in a time pocket, they could get stuck in the Stone Age. It's all up to Cisco and Chester.
Deon starts to reset the time loop, and Chester tells him that there's now power in the world that will make him forget his future. Deon says that he's tried and failed to stop the time, and Chester tells him to accept his future. Deon says that he hates his future and releases a burst of temporal energy. Chester says that he carried the hurt with him of his father, but then he saw Pops with fresh eyes and it helped him let go of his pain. He tells Deon that he can do the same when he stops letting one moment in his past affect his future.
All of the temporal anomalies disappear.
Deon wonders if the future is on him, and figures that he gets to decide what happens not just for him but for everyone. He smiles and disappears, and Chester and Cisco's clothes revert to their 2021 versions. They use the sensors to return to the present and meet with the others at STAR Labs.
Barry has finished regenerating and emerges from the cyropod, and Cisco and Chester report they haven't been able to find Deon. Cisco points out that Deon didn't mention pursuing the Speed Force, and she suggests that Deon doesn't know about her. Caitlin points out that Deon sounds more reasonable and less sadistic than Psych and Fuerza, and Cisco suggests that Deon is the Still Force, Psych is the Sage Force, and Fuerza is the Strength Force.
Chester says that he got lucky beating Deon. Kamilla texts Cisco, and he and Caitlin go to meet her at Jitters. Before he goes, Cisco tells Chester that he didn't get lucky and is proud of him. Chester says that he's just trying to make Pops proud. The Speed Force tells Iris that she's seeing things more clearly now, and is going to stay there in case the sensors detect the Forces. Iris invites her to stay at their apartment and Barry agrees, and the Speed Force thanks them.
Chester goes to the lab, and starts finishing the device that Pops was working on.
Frost is in the lounge practicing her knitting, and is still wearing 60s clothes because she liked them and picked them up new clothing at a thrift store. Joe finds her and tells her that Kristin Kramer is there to bring in Killer Frost. He needs to find a way to make Kristen see that Frost is no longer a killer, and needs Frost to lay low. Frost refuses to do that, and Joe warns her that Kramer is former Army intelligence Frost insists that no one is going to take her new freedom from her, and dares Kristen to come after her.
