Is Amazon trying to extend the series and how is that affecting the writing?
lovemichaeljordan8 July 2022
The writers seem to find it difficult to find creative ways to end the season finales. Some writing is similar to what we have seen before. The ending scene is a great setup for the next season which might be the last. It might be better to quit while ahead and make the final season more meaningful because right now it feels like they're taking very small steps forward. Some things felt pointless but more of The Boys is always appreciated.

Homelander is as good as ever. Yes, he is probably beyond saving but his screen presence is unlike nothing I've seen before. My eyes are glued to the screen while he's on. He's not just evil, he's the product of a bad upbringing and bad influences. This makes you feel for him when he's showing emotions, even though he commits a terrible act one minute later.

Every other character is also on point. Thanks to the backstory we got in the previous episodes and meaningful dialogue we understand every character's motives and actions. When they do something unexpected and wrong you can't help but scream "NO!".

It Just Didn't Hit the Satisfying Mark for Me
MamadNobari978 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This finale felt really weird, as most finales do because well, it's hard to write a finale that is satisfying, but it's harder to write a finale when all the conflicts can be over in a second but you have planned for more seasons.

This finale has some scenes in it that are stupid and really good at the same time. Like the scene with Annie getting more powerful from... some lamps I guess, was really dumb and all that just to knock Soldier Boy on the ground, but it was good at the same time because they wanted to show Hughie not taking the Temp V.

And as I said, I didn't expect them to kill Homelander because I knew there are more seasons and there is no way the show would go on without him. But it was still obvious that things just happened to prevent Homelander from dying because the writers wanted it. And they kinda work and I'm not saying it's bad writing, I'm just saying even if you don't know there's no gonna be more seasons, you still pick up on the fact that Homelander kinda has plot armor.

Soldier Boy getting out of the picture is disappointing to me because he has been the best thing about this season and I genuinely thought they actually killed Maeve, which would've been a good end for her, but I guess this is nice that she gets to live as a normal person away from all this. It is still weird that the only damage Maeve and Kimiko took was V vaporizing out of their blood and not taking any other physical damage (I don't remember but I think Kimiko's injury was due to a rebar in her abdomen and the building dropping on her, but I might be wrong).

It was also weird to see Butcher stopping Soldier Boy from finishing Homelander, but I guess he made a promise.

Black Noir's death was interesting too and I was really waiting for Homelander to punch a hole through Noir but I was still shocked when it happened because I wasn't sure if he was gonna do it and didn't know if Noir was powerful enough. I was also waiting for him to revive like Deadpool but I guess this is it for Noir? It always felt like they didn't know what to do with him so it's a nice ending for him, especially with his cartoon friends they introduced in the previous episodes. So he had a pretty small role here with little characterization and screen time, but they still did a good job with him and it was a good end for him.

The ending scene with people cheering for Homelander blowing the hater guy's mind is really good, but I feel like it was ruined with the decision they made regarding the step-dad? It just feels like they made the step-dad into an idiot fascist for no reason and just for the sake of making him a bad guy, so they can give MM a chance to get back with his daughter and his ex-wife. So why even introduce this conflict if he's gonna go back anyway? Because it feels forced. How did the wife even settle for this guy after being with MM? How is the guy who's such an idiot get to marry that woman? Because if they didn't have chemistry earlier in this season, now it seems like they're just so different from each other than makes you think how they even end up with each other.

Some people, I assume many, will probably complain about the story becoming repetitive and that the season was a waste of time and the plot didn't move an inch, and that everything else is the same as the beginning of the season. Which there's some truth to that, but what do you expect when the whole plot revolves around them killing Homelander and there's gonna be more seasons? So it was obvious from the beginning that they're gonna do something to delay that.

Another thing is that, even though it was one hour, some things still felt rushed, like Butcher and Soldier Boy just teleporting into Vought Tower without establishing scenes or showing if they fought guards or something. Like they just walked in like was an abandoned warehouse. We also got another Frenchie and Kimiko adventure scene, which is getting kinda boring? Like I don't know why they have to keep separating them and having two or more plots happening at the same time which one involves Frenchie and Kimiko going somewhere to get something and Kimiko killing armed people.

Anyway, this finale wasn't perfect and could've been better. I'm disappointed about how they dealt with Soldier Boy. I think making Ryan go with his actual dad makes things more complicated in a good way, but with no Soldier Boy, I don't see how The Boys are gonna stop Homelander and Ryan in the next season.

Good ending, but could have been better.

Liked Soldier Boy so much better
fh_315 August 2022
I know - Homelander is the antagonist of the show and he will not get taken out before the series ends. But I really liked Soldier Boy and Jensen Ackles. Soldier Boy was a great character and hoped we could have found a way to keep him around. We could lose the Deep and no one would notice.

Writers aren't that smart after all
stani_cv10 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Everything that happened in this finale serves only pone purpose - to make S4 possible. All the characters acted irrational and illogical doing stuff they would never do in other circumstances. All of them except maybe Frenchie and MM. Butcher switching sides because of a promise? The kid would have turned normal after the blast and so would Homelander. What's the point of attacking Soldier Boy at that moment except to drive the story further. I doubt Maeve would have lasted normally that long against Homelander either. Obviously everyone wants to see more, but they better not drag the show to the bottom simply driven by greed.

Good episode, not a great finale
tristan_198 July 2022
I'm unsure about this one. I think I need to let it sink in. The episode was definitely good, but it felt like mostly a bridge to season 4. I do appreciate some of the twists here and there, but the story is kinda thrown at you and you don't have a lot of time to think, unless you pause the episode. The pieces are reset and the board changes here. I like some of the action, but it definitely leaves place for questioning.

Gotta say I particularly loved Annie this season. She was fantastic. The last shot of the episode is mind boggling, as you'd think the character in question would be smarter than that in that situation, or if not the development felt rushed.

A good finale to otherwise simply Epic season
ssvfolder-18 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After all twists and turns we've seen this season, this show gave something that it had never done before, and that is a "Happily ever after" moment. To be honest it felt a bit wrong, as this is not what this show is about.

From this point on I'll dive into specifics, so spooilers.

From the story perspective, Butcher first brought Soldierboy back to kill homelander no matter what, then had a change of heart, betrayed him and even teamed up with Homelander to kill him. And at the end they switch main target to get the head popper, while Homelander gets what he always desired the most, a family, and by the looks of it a seat at power with a head popper. Not a typical Butcher move, despite the fact that the show had created and executed this narrative perfectly well.

Queen Maeve story ark was good, right up until the show gave her a "happily ever after" moment. First she wouldn't have survived without her powers. Second it felt for the first time ever, that the show just didn't want to kill a bi-sexual character because of the wrong reasons.

Story arks of MM, Frenchie, Kimiko and A-train, are secondary to the season and frankly feel a bit forced. While Frenchie and Kimiko are still interestestnig to some point, MM and A-train feel a bit like they came in to a different show about redemption and family matters. In my opinion, definitely the weaker side of this season.

Annie and Hewey just felt annoying with their one sided boyscout morals, and toward the end, if I'd hear "I'm going to save...etc" phrase, this would literally make me fast forward their entire scenes.

Homelander. Now this is someone who's story ark got some redemption to a certain degree yet still showed the character's flaws. Masterfully executed by Anthony Starr, one of absolute highlights throughout the season.

Deep's story ark was actually interesting. A simpleton with desires to have sex with sea creatures, had fully submitted to the will of Homelander and his entire surroundings. One can feel some pity for the character. He is just weak and no the smart. Great acting though. A highlight of the season, without a doubt.

From the ending we see that Soldierboy was alive and in typical movie fascion was kept in some CIA facility by Grace. This means we will see him again. I'f I had to guess, Grace is working together with the Head Popper at this point, and the only reason she is alive, is that Newman wants to keep Soldierboy as a means to kill Homelander.

Adn finally the gem of a character of this season is a Soldierboy. What a treat! This character is deeply flawed, yet he is the only one who knows who he is and what he wants. He is also the only one who keep his word no matter what. Jensen Ackles is too charsmatic and likable.

All in all it was an amazing season and the best out of all other series that coming out now. The only problem is that the series had became tha main draw for the entire Prime streaming service, so instead of finishing off with a bang and become trully epic and timeless, they will keep on putting cliffhangers and pushing the story forward. I guess ths is good too. Though I do believe that this show deserves to ha ve a finishing blockbuster movie, something like Marvel's "The Endgame". Great job. Keep it up!

Inconsistent but enjoyable
Peanutman20208 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love every episode of the boys, but this season has bugged me quite a bit. I get that the super heroes have strong healing abilities, but there were way too many times someone survived something they shouldn't. In my opinion both A-Train and Maeve should be 100% dead. A-Train was just dumb, you see his body give out and then next episode he was not only fine, but he could run again. As for Maeve, there is no way she survived that nuclear soldier boy blast and that fall. Soldier boy's whole point was to kill homelander, so does that mean he isnt even strong enough to do so? Overall though, this episode was quite enjoyable.

Fun but pointless finale
mertafor8 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I read the reviews and apparently most viewers think the same. Yes, it's great to watch, an absolute fun. But the problem is that there have been so many plot twists back to back this season, finally none of them contributed to move the story forward and we're back to square one. I enjoy this show a lot yet you want it to pay it off after watching an entire season.

Also I'm sorry but this feminism approach make things pretty inconsistent (same happened last season finale, it was all about Maeve and Starlight). I mean if Maeve is so powerful to fight Homelander all by herself, why she never stood up to him before? They are scared to death from him. Even after Soldier Boy, Maeve and Butcher (with V) come together to fight against him yet it's even an arguable success. But Maeve against Homelander and Starlight against Soldier Boy didn't make sense a bit, it's simply ridiculous. No need to make things pointless just in the name of women empowerment. Plus how come she's alive after her powers drained by Soldier Boy and she's fallen from a 60 story building? Last of us 2 ending was completely unnecessary.

Regardless, I must say that the show is still a huge success with all its flaws. Honestly I may call it even a masterpiece if you compare it to recent Marvel stuff. I hope they come up with better writing or just finish it while evething is still good.

What a season. What a finale. Some of the best acting I've ever seen, especially from Anthony Starr, who has to be nominated for an Emmy soon (I know he can't this year because the cutoff was in May) though fingers crossed for 2023.

Amazing action, satisfying payoffs. Brilliant episode.

See you all in 2023.

Why did Butcher interfere?????
OnlyTheFinest8 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Hl - Homelander SB - Soldier Boy

So after Ryan laser beamed SB, SB ran into him (Ryan) with his shield and knocked him down.

Then Hl went to check on Ryan, and while doing so his guard was down.

So SB saw an opening and he was about to attack both of them with his chest beam but then Butcher stopped him.

Why??????

From what we've seen, SB's chest beam isn't fatal to supes, it only makes them human. Hell, Maeve took an extra charged up chest beam and didn't die, she simply lost her powers...which is what would've happened to Ryan and Homelander if Butcher didn't interfere.

Not to mention, Butcher knows that Ryan hates his powers because of how he accidentally killed his own mother, so SB attacking him with the chest beam would have turned him into a normal boy which I'm sure is something Ryan would be happy about.

Why did Butcher even take more temp V knowing it was deadly, only to chicken out at the finish line because Ryan was gonna be turned into..... a human?

I also didn't like how everyone showed up and ganged up on SB like he was a bigger threat than Hl.

Couldn't Butcher or one of the others simply take Ryan away from the fight while the others dealt with Hl? Then afterwards they could still take out SB whenever they felt it because they know his weakness.

This was a very unsatisfying and underwhelming season finale.

Weird. They are nerfing Homelander. Losing their courage to kill charcaters for good. Instead they bring back A train... Maeve loses her powers but she still fell off a tower unharmed. Idk, it feels inconsistent but it was a great episode anyway.

Everything feels forced
ninjajoseph8 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Highkey disappointing finale. A lot of scenes seem forced, like Butcher fighting Soldier Boy, they literally had their goal within grasp and then Butcher decides to fight Soldier Boy instead of just grabbing Ryan and jetting. Everyone has plot armor, I like Maeve but how the heck did she live that explosion especially knowing that it removes your powers? If she had lived the blast she would've surely fell to her death. Noir's character arc seems completely wasted, what was the point of showing his character motivations if he's never even going to confront Soldier Boy? Soldier Boy is back to where he was before the start of the season, and the final season seems so unrealistic. Especially Ryan's smirk at the end, he was raised well so why would he smile at his dad blasting someones brains out right in front of him. Seems out of character.

Pointless season
C0SSTY8 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Nothing really happened.

Soldier Boy is sleeping again.

Starlight and Hughie are together once again.

Kimiko has her powers back.

Homelander is alive and kicking.

This season had some cool scenes and that's about it.

If you skipped this season and will watch s4 after s2, you would not miss anything. Some people would probably not even realize there was a season in between.

They saved Homelander, because a kid got a bruise on his head? Not to mention that even if they let SB blast HL with the kid, they would not die, it would only strip their powers.

How did the kid's lasers threw Solder Boy into the wall, when Butcher's lasers did nothing to him, even though he shot them straight to his face?

Kimiko went from feeling bad for killing russian mobsters to killing people who were just doing their job, while listening to music and dancing really quick.

How did Maeve survive the fall from the building, even though she lost her powers and was human? That fall definitely looks bigger than 30 meters, which has 100% mortality rate. It wouldn't even matter if she turned 1 meter above ground. The momentum of the fall would be the same.

Very solid finale to an overall very good season
TSF228 July 2022
This show was already good before, but this season elevated it to new levels.

The finale was no exception, a solid episode with lots of nice twists and turns. Only minor critique is that it felt slightly short, which is odd to say considering the hour run time.

Sets up the next season very very well and if it's anything like this season then we should be in for a treat!

Second season finale in a row which not only matched but exceeded my expectations. So much happened, it'll take a while for it all to sink in. The Boys truely is a great show - three seasons in and doesn't show any signs of slowing down.

That last scene - just "wow"!

People will not be satisfied until they kill Homelander.
cianmuldooner6 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
No, Homelander doesn't die in this one. But the entire power dynamic of the show has shifted - Vought has nothing keeping it in check anymore, Honelander has realised he can literally do whatever he wants and now has an up-and-coming Homelander Jr. In Ryan. Noir is dead, Maeve is off the board. Butcher's on a countdown, and The Boys no longer have anyone inside of Vought. Things are arguably in a worse place than ever. Very excited to see where they go from here.

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, this season had some great stuff. And I guess that is where this 8/10 is coming from. But some "meh" writing near these last two episodes. Friggin Soldier Boy was a dope character as well.

However, the other reason I am rating this so high is because of one scene. The very ending scene with home lander and the son's very subtle smile with the violin playing gives me chills. This kid just sort of had bad writing and his acting was good. But he nailed that last scene. Just enjoying the moment of his dad killing someone in broad daylight. Not sure if it will follow the comic books, or we will see a different fate from the father/son duo.

Good, but with a lot of problems
Fourinstance8 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great season, but this episode has inconsistencies and bad writing decisions in my opinion. Firstly I was very annoyed Maeve survived, she is a great character but the whole point in the fight scene was that she sacrificed herself to capture Soldier Boy, also if SB exploded midair how did she fall 100 meters and survive? Completely undermined the drama of that moment and her sacrifice. Also I laughed when Starlight went supersonic for 90 seconds just to knock SB back 2 meters. Great fight scene though, lots of plot twists. I saw a lot of people complain why Butcher went for SB instead of HL, but I think I understand, in the heat of the moment he made a decision that he considered Ryan more important than his fight with HL, was it the right decision? Probably not. He could have let SB fry both their powers, that way they can defeat HL and Ryan would still live without his powers, in an earlier episode Ryan even stated that he hated his powers. I felt like the writers were afraid to kill any characters, honestly I don't mind that HL survived, but I think Maeve should have died fighting HL and maybe instead of Starlight going super sayan for nothing, Hughie should have taken the V, teleported SB like into the stratosphere and teleported back. Would have been much more dramatic. I wasn't all for the completely happy ending, felt like I was watching a cartoon. I do think Black Noir will live, he survived having his brain torn apart, he'll survive having his guts torn apart, I think Edgar will find him and save him maybe using the body cam. But in general I loved this season, this episode had great moment like the Ryan and HL moment in the end. 8/10 for this episode, 9.5/10 for the season.

Disappointing finale :(
mattrabbi8 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This season was looking great from episode 4 till episode 6 (which was fantastic), but unfortunately it did not quite stick the landing for me. The lack of stakes in the end did somewhat drag down episode 6 (Herogasm) for me as well, because as epic as the ending of that episode was, what was truly the point of it in the end? It didn't really lead to much.

Getting back to this episode though, I found it to drag quite a bit for the most part. They bring back Homelander's son after having been absent since the fight between him and Butcher, and suddenly he's completely against him and loves Homelander now? Like, did he completely forget what happened in the season 2 finale?

I also didn't love how in the end, the disagreement between Hughie and Starlight ultimately ended up with Starlight being completely right and Hughie just giving in. Sure, the Temp V did turn out to be dangerous in the end, but Starlight didn't always know that. She only shamed Hughie for feeling weak and wanting a temporary chance to fight back against the people who made his and her lives miserable. Idk it just didn't sit right with me in the end. But yeah, Starlight is pretty freaking cool for being able to float, I guess.

Also what the heck did they do with Black Noir? His story starts to get somewhat interesting, and then he just dies out of nowhere because Homelander got a bit angry. Yes, we get it, Homelander is a big monster baby, but why does it have to be shown at the expense of a cool character who had such potential? Although I can't say I loved the whole cartoon character thing, what was that about? I guess in the previous episode it was sort of a cool way to show what happened with Payback and Soldier Boy. But for that to be the final thing we see of Noir before he dies out of nowhere, just seemed a bit silly.

Besides Noir, no one dies in the end, and Soldier Boy, who was IMO a really great addition to this season, is just gone and back to square one.

In the end it was just ultimately frustrating that the ONE thing that ruined the whole plan was Ryan flipping sides so easily and siding with Homelander. Nothing in this episode was something we haven't seen before, and nearly nothing satisfying came out of this episode. I suppose Butcher having limited time left to live could greatly increase his motivation to get super reckless, but nothing particularly interesting was set up on that front. Overall, quite disappointed. :/

Warning: Spoilers
An entire season of build up and literally nothing happened. Look at the start of the season and where it ended... They introduced a new character and killed him off but they didn't kill him really. They killed off a main character but she didn't really die. Zero resolution to anything that happened from season one to episode 7 of season 3. Feels like it's falling into typical TV writing tropes.

ALL OF THIS WAS SO POINTLESS.

It's the writers fault and this was a big let down.

When will TV finally listen to its viewers and stop this nonsense?

The writers are the worst. Nothing makes sense. We are back at season 2.

All of this was for nothing The actors were great and it's really not their fault and everyone knows that.

But I think this is it. Its been great.
