I like Zooey, I thought she was fantastic in New Girl. That is why I decided to check this out, I hope they're paying her seven figures, because for the life of me I cannot figure out why on earth she would ever choose the show. It's cringe worthy, it's embarrassing, it's awkward, and I realize it's supposed to be all those things to a certain extent. But wow was this awful, and by the way what the hell was Michael Bolton even doing on the show, he basically sits there and does almost nothing. It's one of the strangest episodes of television I've ever watched.

First off, let me start with the positive highlights of this first episode.
OK, there you go, now on to my review. Terrible and not entertaining. I've always been a fan of Zoe, but if this is the real Zoe, I've kinda lost respect for Jonathan Scott. How are you dealing with her. I hope everything on this show is scripted and produced because if this is real, it's really bad.
I rated it a 2 because I don't think I've ever made an IMDB rating a 1.....or less? Then I saw the overall score and it is a 1.7.. I've never seen an overall score that low, but I guess there's always a first...and that 1.7 really fits.
Then there's Michael Bolton. His non verbal demeanor is screaming "why am I doing this show?" It's written all over his face.
And lastly, why try to replicate a great iconic and awesome show from the day.
I won't be watching episode #2.

What do you get when you pair an iconic musician with a talented actress/singer, add some nostalgia with a twist? An insufferable waste of time.
"Celeb" Dating Game seems on the surface a fun throwback the likes of which we have come to expect in the era of reboots, but in reality it is even worse than the brain candy that summer tv provides. It's more like brain inedible-object-one-finds-in-between-the-couch-cushions. (Maybe while searching for the remote?) Zooey speaks both overly loud and insincere. Michael looks like he's mourning his career. Every person on stage looks incredibly awkward.
It's not even so-bad-it's-good, it is simply bad.

Obviously with the whole premise of the show being what it is, I wasn't' expecting an Emmy worthy show, but this is just embarrassing. I love Zoey, and I don;t know what they did to convince her to do this. I hope it goes away soon so it doesn't drag her down with it. Obviously not real dates of course, but not even any fun. And finally, Michael Bolton?

It's not "actually" anything that it advertises itself as, as it's not really a "dating" game, the "celebrities" are mostly celebrities in name only (a contestant from another reality dating game show is NOT a celebrity), and therefore does it even qualify as a "show", then?
There's no actual date, and there's no way in a million years these people actually ever go on a date, and Michael Bolton sings like a guy slowly being turned to stone, so there's that, too.
Awful, terrible, no-go pointless waste of time. And Zooey looks frightened to be there.

This is just really cheap produced. First of all the term "celebrity" on these shows is too loose. Granted, yes Tom Hanks wouldn't appear on this, but get some fun B liters. Michael Bolton adds nothing to this show. He looks annoyed almost as if he really does not want to be here. Interesting idea, but poorly executed.

It's funny, goofy and not supposed to be taken serious.
I wasn't old enough to have seen the previous dating game but I have seen clips and it's spot on.
Seems a lot of the bad reviews don't get it's supposed to be cheesy and light. That's part of the fun. Zooey is just right for this type of show. She even dresses the part naturally. Micheal Bolton is awkward and that's part of the appeal.
People need to lighten up. Not everything needs to blow your mind.

Wow, this show is so awkward. Totally a mismatch between zooey and michael, neither is witty in their responses to anyone. You really can't blame the contestants for the things they say, but the hosts make the show in this genre and they don't deliver at all. This show needs someone like Tom Bergeron who can bring out the best answers from the contestants and the best responses from the celebrities and make the show more interesting.

Not sure what is with all the hate for the show. I almost didn't watch and these kind of game shows are my favorite candy. Simple and fun. Everyone clicks well. I think Michael Bolton is mostly doing a bit. When he talks it is funny.
Bottom line: It's meant to be a classic, cheesy game show. It's cute and not meant to be aiming higher.

I really wanted to like it, and Zooey Deschanel is a great host, but "Mr. Personality" Michael Bolton does not belong. And the celebs, daters and questions are all lame, and unrealistic. Bring back Alec Baldwin and Match Game! It's a very generous 3/10, because I feel sorry for Zooey stuck in this mess.

Not sure what the execs were thinking casting Michael Bolton for this. He barely moves and when he does it reminds me of the old Disney animatronics robots I saw when I was a kid. I mean this guy looks stiff like a corpse kinda stiff.
Zooey is OK as a host, but she's trying too hard to be nice and a good sport about the whole thing when the world knows she's nothing like that. This could have been fun...but it needs to be recast or it won't make it past 6-8 episodes. Waste of a reboot.

Just watched the first episode. They've given the show a 70's-80's theme and designed the set to attract viewers who were around back then. There's 80's pop-star, Michael Bolton and the 'New Girl' who's wrapped in an Awesome Vintage Dress. So WHY are the 'celebrities' people who I've never heard of? This show is a joke and an insult to the original that I grew up watching. PS: I'm only mentioning things that potential viewers would see from the commercials for the show and I won't give any spoilers about the 'dates'. But this whole show was a joke!

The beautiful & talented Zoey does her best, Michael Boltons' singing is great. The show is horrible. As it's Pride month, the first coupling of the show is gay, includes a B celebrity. The second "celebrity" discussion includes her either accent being either British or Australian. Zoey is lively, Michael looks a little bored sitting there waiting his turn to sing. The show isn't as advertised & a failure all the way around. Might last 3 episodes. Don't waste your time watching.
So fun! Can't wait to see more celebs

I like the show though I would like to know how the dates went. I do not think Zooey makes a good host. She sounds like she is drunk thru the whole show and she just seems so uninterested. You can even catch her rolling her eyes sometimes at the responses. There is no host chemistry between her and Michael either.. Need a host that will bring more life to the show and have a better connection with Michael.

This is game show tv at its worst. I love Zoey, but she is not ready to do this. She looks and acts uncomfortable and lost. I also like Michael Bolton. But the mannequin that looks like him is painful to watch. Only when it sings can I turn around and watch. The celebrity questions are stupid and shallow. Two episodes was enough. I'm done.
