Netflix is usually spot on with subtitles even if the film or series in is in English, but this is a major fail for viewers! The dialogue is mixed between a strong South African English accent, Afrikaans, Xhosa and whatever other language is going on, but there's minimal subtitles provided.
To make it more frustrating for viewers, each person mixes their languages with all their speech. I persevered through the first episode but if people can't understand what they are saying and there's stuff all subtitles, it's a fail!

Finally, no cheap drama. Pretty much everyone was respectful, the models, the judges, the photographers. No one acted unnecessarily nasty for "entertainment" and the models genuinely enjoyed the environment even if it was high stress. It seemed like it was an occupation they were going into because they enjoyed it, not because of the high status that came with it.
If you want to see someone do well, especially as a photographer, making the model comfortable is going to give you the best results. I'm sure there are very few extremely temperamental photographers in the industry as opposed to what people are generally led to believe. This aspect of the show was realistic.
Yes, it's true the production value seemed a little "cheap" but I honestly think the fault fell on the videography and production team. That's what I'm currently studying, as well as photography. Man, if the editing was better this show would be seen much differently. Saying the photos looked like "high school photography" is untrue. The way the final photos were framed by the video team is what I didn't like. The photos were cut off / reformatted and placed on a cheasy background with a polaroid border. The people who put the footage together overlooked the necessity to really showcase the photography. Though this can be overlooked because the judges in this show know what they're talking about and it's pleasant to watch. Promise, the production isn't as bad as it sounds, there are just a few things that stand out.
As for the subs...I get why they puts people off. The subs fall off when people speak English which may be difficult for some to process on the fly, especially since there are a few strong accents. But that's the only issue I can really see. Cmonnn, like you're not expecting to listen to a mix of different languages when this show is from South Africa? Africa is KNOWN for being linguistically diverse. And what's so hard about reading in English as people switch between different languages? Don't most of us get education in reading / writing for over a decade? You get used to it very quickly.
Overall, I think this is a great show. I watched most of America's Next Top Model, some of ModelMe (the Asian version of ANTM) and hands down this show was my favorite. I expected myself to dislike it, I was pleasantly surprised! If you like modeling competition shows, give this a shot.

I really enjoy in this show. No drama, great task, a lot of runway, laugh and love. Such strong models. Jury was amazing. Such good and constructive directions. Models - amazing! Hope they will continue to work as models. Just awesome. I like photo challenges. And it look like me they prepare them for future jobs. Also how to communicate with client. I would love to see more team work and team shooting because you can also see how someone think and behave.
Wish them all the best in future!
Only bad thing is the translation in some moment but other than that ever thing is good.
More normal shows like this is needed!

Everything about this series is amateurish. The photo shoots feel low budgeted with a high school photographer. One challenge had the contestants race across Cape Town in "designer" clothing only to next have to separate waste, then travel to another waste management system plant for an immediate photo shoot. Why? Who thought that made any sense? Then you could tell some of the photo shoots were ripped directly from ANTM and brought nothing new and exciting. Yawn
Finally, as some have already pointed out, subtitles should be across the board - even when English is spoken. But I suppose the overall budget for this "production" was on the lower end. Get rid of the champagne and use that cash for something better.
I love these competition type shows but this one was so boring. I first thought it was a drama but as time went on I then thought it was a joke. Nope, it's real and so badly executed. It's as if they had no budget at all and just went with the flow.
