Valley girls do Planet 9

Set in "like, the future," this is decidedly retro in style and production. Carrie and Jess are Valley girls straight from the 1980s, the sets and effects are on a par with the cheapest B science fiction from the 1950s, except in neon colors, a small step down from vintage Doctor Who. The whole thing has the feel of a high school production, but with adults. Come to think of it, again not far from Doctor Who!

It's all tongue in cheek of course. The overall tone is the Valley girl vibe, not trying to be serious. The girls are a rock band with one fan who manage to get sucked into a battle with an evil Space Queen who wants to use a portable black hole, the Doom Hole, to conquer the universe. There are four musical numbers, including the touching ballad "Black Hole in My Heart."

The cast are mostly new to movies, less than half have photos at IMDb right now. The only one likely to be recognized by most is Richard Karn, the sidekick from Home Improvement. He plays the face of the girls' computer assistant, Computer Face.

This won the Insanely Entertaining award at the Planet 9 Film Fest in Hamtramck Michigan in 2022. Those who recognize the reference Planet 9 from Outer Space and have made it this far in this review may enjoy it.
