During a Dragon Con 2015 panel session with Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly, it was revealed that the characters of Pete and Myka were actually heavily influenced by the actors themselves, and that the personalities of the characters of Pete and Myka are closely related to those of Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly, respectively. McClintock tells the story about the first time he and Kelly met during auditions for the parts of Pete and Myka. There were quite a few other actors and actresses auditioning for the part, and pairs were randomly assigned and would be switched around to see which actors and actresses had better chemistry. By luck McClintock and Kelly were chosen to be a pair and during their joint reading, Kelly slipped up a line, accidentally saying robot. McClintock naturally started to do the robot. Kelly, worried that McClintock would blow her audition, slapped his arm and glared at him. After completing their audition without further flubs, the writer of the show was said to have looked at the casting director and said "that's the show," referencing the behavior or Kelly's more serious and business side and McClintock's more goofy and fun side. Afterwards they had to be recalled back into do the audition after it was discovered that the audition camera had not been recording during their audition, but it was hardly needed as they had already won the parts.
The bed and breakfast run by Leena shown in the pilot is a popular exterior used in many Canadian movies and television shows. It's actually a private home in Toronto Ontario, Canada. The popular show Murdoch Mysteries used it as the Jenkins upper class home in the episode, "Downstairs, Upstairs", season 4.
The President's Secret Service code name is "Eagle," which had been Bill Clinton's Secret Service code name.
The football which appears to be capable of circling the Earth seems to be the same "Flubber"-filled one from 1963's Son of Flubber (1962).
