Elsa Pataky in Interceptor (2022)

Interceptor

Cheesy harmless fun!

This Australian production harks back to the B-movie days with all the necessary elements - silly improbable story, bad acting, poor American accents and some questionable special effects.

But you know what? This was fun to watch, more so than some big budget action movies. It knows what it is and doesn't try to hide it in any way. The fact that Chris Hemsworth hams it up alongside his wife is testament to that.

The fight scenes are fairly decent and there's some decent depictions of violence as well.

If you go in knowing what you're in for, you may just find yourself enjoying this!

Good old fashioned action movie...

Granted, from this 2022 action movie's cover/poster, then I was expecting that I would be in for a low budget action movie, very much in the spirit of the movies you get from The Asylum. But I figured, since this was actually on Netflix, that I might chance it and watch what writers Matthew Reilly and Stuart Beattie had to offer with "Interceptor".

And now that I have seen "Interceptor", I will say that this movie was actually surprisingly good. This felt and looked like a good old 1980s and 1990s action movie, you know the ones that had the likes of Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damme, and so forth on the cast list. So if you enjoyed the action movies of the 1980s and 1990s, then you most certainly will also enjoy "Interceptor".

The storyline told in "Interceptor", as written by Matthew Reilly and Stuart Beattie, is pretty straight forward, if not actually generic in concept and idea, but it hardly matters because "Interceptor" was an enjoyable and entertaining movie. It had all the elements that you needed in an action movie such as this. And that means that the fact of you knowing how the movie will end hardly mattered, as the ride from the beginning to the end was enjoyable.

Now, I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble that were a part of "Interceptor", but they had gotten together a good collection of talents for the movie. The leading performers, Elsa Pataky and Luke Bracey, were nicely cast for the movie. Well, the part about being all unfamiliar cast members was a bit of an overstatement, as the movie actually had Chris Hemsworth on an uncredited role.

I have to say that I was genuinely entertained by "Interceptor", and it is certainly a movie that is well-worth taking the time to sit down and watch. Sure, the movie doesn't have enough contents to be an action movie classic, nor does it have enough contents to support more than a single viewing, but trust me when I say it is worth watching.

"Interceptor" is a movie that is crammed with enough one liners and clichés to put on a smile on the lips of the 1980s and 1990s action movies for sure.

My rating of director Matthew Reilly's "Interceptor" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Ok Hemsworth...

Read a few reviews on this movie and I have to say I agree with this statement, Chris Hemsworth's Cameo Is The Best Part of 'Interceptor'. Now just because this movie was fat-fetched and had no concept of common sense. Did not make in any less entertaining, that was the key word here, for entertainment ONLY. No movie now a days can be taken seriously. I know for a FACT this movie was not the worst movie I have ever seen. Definitely worth more than a one or two. Ppl now a days can be so cruel in their ratings, I almost rated it a 10 just to even things out, but I had to be honest in my rate. This movie was at LEAST half good so definitely a 5 and entertaining so it gets a 6. Now, would I recommend this movie or see it again myself? Hell no!, but that's was not the point. This movie was not dull and the action was packed in it!

Good action movie

Not sure why there are many negative comments about bad acting etc. Etc.... No different to any other wild action Rambo or Willis type movie. A lot of people here have no idea, don't listen to the rubbish they are putting out there. This is entertaining and action packed, so give it a go. If you think movies are supposed to be real life, then don't bother watching any. It's escapism and entertainment......period.

Funny cameo by someone famous...

Let's get into the guts of things. The end of this movie is utterly predictable, and so are the faith of each baddy. However, the journey to get to the end is entertaining, even if some scene where a little too long in the tooth, which just made them frustrating to watch. But ignore these and some plot holes, and you'll be entertained.

The surprise cameo of someone famous as a TV salesperson is a funny add-on to the movie. This was one of the highlight of the movie for me. Having said that, Elsa Pataky showed she can pull off a lead action hero character, even if some of her character's actions where a little on the super-human side, considering the condition she was in.

VERDICT: Despite some plot holes, it is an entertaining action movie to watch. An extra star for this review purely for the cameo actor.

Not that bad

People here take themselves way too seriously. The acting was a bit over the top as was the story but it kept my attention for an hour and a half. I found some of the Sven's thrilling and suspenseful.

Solid B movie, not the theatrical masterpiece many of the reviewers here seemed to be expecting. Lighten up people and enjoy it for what it is. Bruce Willis has made much worse films lately.

Lack of Talent

The Storyline is a decent story, but the majority of the acting is poorly done and seems almost rushed. Other than the main character and the funny hipster TV Salesman(Chris Hemsworth) none of the characters in story seem convincing enough to take serious. They all have hardly any acting skill. Maybe if this were a soap opera, but its not. So do better next time you produce a movie Hemsworth.

Die Hard at Sea

Its honestly not that bad. All the bad reviews made me watch it out of curiosity. As action movies go I've seen way worse. It also didn't commit the mortal sin of shaky cam fight scenes which I was expecting from the awful reviews. The fight scenes were surprisingly well made and they didnt shy away from blood like so many action movies do now a days. Is the acting bad? Yes but I don't watch action films for Oscar winning performances.

Ok Action Flick

Decent action flick, not sure why she engages the antagonist directly through the video screen and audio. Her better bet would be to just ignore him. Can't believe that little thing is married to Chris Hemsworth. Very uncomfortable dialogue by the antagonist midway through the movie, makes you very uncomfortable very awkward. At this point I felt like turning off the movie. Again and again she engages the bad guys via the video. What can she possibly gain? Also it portrays men as either bad guys or weaklings, whereas all the women are heroes including a female president. All in all it was a decent action movie.

Cliché but also suprising

I want to defend this movie.

Because, yes it has many flaws : poor cgi, many cliché, poor gun fights, average to poor acting... you name them

But, it also has some uncommon things that surprised me for something that I thought would be so cliché. Like some interesting fights move performed with camera movement. Fights are not a jump cut fiesta. Yes they are far from perfect but it appeared to me that they did many efforts. Maybe they only lacked time and/or money, but I saw a movie that tried things, tried his best and did some good.

The US and army depiction of the villain is really rough and, imo, pretty accurate.

I saw things that I don't often see in action movies like sulfuric acid, uncleaned weapon, unreplaced old medkit, very muscular women, clips that emptied consistently, people getting hit in kevlar chest that looked hurt by it.

I would say that I was really expecting some very generic action movie, and it was. But I also appreciated many things. And the most surprising thing, I think the second half is better that the first.

Kick-ass action by Elsa Pataky

An engaging 1.36 hrs movie with kick-ass action by Elsa Pataky who single handedly saves country from 16 simultaneous missile attacks !!!

A sleek movie with good set design and editing.

Good Enough

Sometimes you just wanna see a nice kickass movie with stuff blowing up all over the place. Script? Acting? See The Godfather. This was 98 mins of action from start to finish...and definitely good enough.

Extremely cheesy variant of Die Hard with some incredibly unrealistic dialogue... But... Strangely, it WORKS!

The facility that is supposed to be the last line of defense in the game of nukes can get infiltrated, because the bad guys can sneak in as "janitors" thanks to cheating the background checks. This is how credible the plot is.

With several lines extremely rough around the edges, this movie sometimes makes your jaw drop in awe, as you think "They allowed THAT scripted in?!?"

A strange blend of woke and patriotic clichés, Interceptor is "one of those movies" that invite you to bite your nails as the hero fights against time AND evil doers. You get to notice quite a lot of dumb things, but smart tricks are there as well. It really has some fun moments, like the expert on game theory being challenged with his 14% analysis.

The level of stupid and cliché may be racing against each other, but... Damn it, but you do keep watching! They've done it RIGHT! Even the worst aspects of this movie do serve the ultimate purpose of it, which is to get on a roller coaster ride with Elsa Pataky, the brave #MeToo warrior who never gives up!

How did the 15 interceptors manage to launch without hitting each other? More importantly: How do these things know which nuke to hit, so that two or three of them do not aim for the same one, letting a few others go by?

Apparently they HAVE studied the relevant stuff and there is some factual merit to the mechanics of this, but the ending leaves such questions unanswered within the confines of the movie.

I liked Interceptor more than I thought I would. I liked the way it dumbed me down. I liked how the "chef" on the train (Steven Seagal) or the immortal John McClane of Nakatomi Plaza kept living in Elsa Pataky. I liked to see Chris Hemsworth in that deserted store.

I did NOT like how incredibly descriptive some of the dialogue was, but still I never felt like quittinq. The flow kept me on board.

Close to the finale, as the hero(ine) was doing acrobatics with one good arm, I thought to myself if the dynamics of that particular scene is even better than that of a similar one seen in one of the Mission Impossible movies.

Raw, stupid, copycat, extreme, unhinged and to the point... Not bad, not bad...

Yup.

Don't get me wrong, I like action movies and also movies that has Military badass storyline. But this one... Okay, it was entertaining at first. But it gotten draggy for me. The leading character was great but there is something missing.

It's an okay movie for me.

you just want to see some action

Yes, it is not a great movie.

If you read the story line before - you already know what to expect.

So - equipped with some comfort food and nothing to worry about in the evening - great wasted time without feeling guilty.

Fun 'Under Seige' type movie.

No idea why people are dissing this so much. It's a fun action movie. You know who will win, just enjoy the ride. There's a couple of dumb plot holes but honestly, it's a fun enough ride you don't care.

It's reminiscent of Segal's Under Seige, but on a military sea rig and roles are reversed - the woman is capable and the guy the support but it's done well and isn't done with an overt agenda that might annoy some. There's some genuine tense moments, some great fight scenes and the characters are filled out enough you find yourself routing for the heroine and booing the baddies.

The thing that annoyed me the most was the cameo from Chris Hemsworth - silly and unnecessary (film loses a point for this). Other than that, grab the popcorn, switch off your critical brain and have fun.

The movie is a bit underestimated.

The film is not that bad, it is pretty watchable. The fact that immigrant-americans are good guys, and fighting against American traitors should not be a reason to hate this movie.
