Not bad
mkaouer20 May 2022
Even if the story is very predictable, the actual acting and events development make it exciting to watch. If you enjoy kidnapping stories that take turnovers and twists, you are going to enjoy this movie. The ending is not difficult and may not appeal to the large audience who believes in fairy tales.

good story
rajaccie27 April 2022
Good story, but kinda slow. I liked all characters, esp ludoviko. When it started, i thought its gonna be a great crime thriller, but then , it had a story, and was like a normal movie. Not boring.. but once a watch movie.

Friends .. for life(?)
kosmasp30 August 2022
Sometimes you meet someone and you know this is it. Not romantically speaking (no pun intended), though it may seem so at certain points of the story. Especially when it feels like one of the parties is showing jealousy and the other may not be as .. grateful as the other one thinks is necessary.

Trying to be as vague as possible, because I do not want to reveal anything - it is my credo after all. So this story of two individuals who are different, but hit it off from the moment they meet, is well told. It may get a bit too hectic for its own good towards the end ... and live too much on chance ... but hey, it is fun to watch overall, that cannot be disputed.

Off-center Italian crime drama/buddy movie
paul-allaer2 December 2022
As "The Turning Point" (2021 release from Italy; 96 min.) opens, Ludovico hosts his dad at his place, and his dad is none too pleased about the state of things in Ludovico's life. In a parallel story, a thug named Jack steals a backpack full of cash from a mobster. In the ensuing bike chase, Jack is cornered into fleeing and ends up at Ludovico's apartment... At this point we are 10 min into the movie.

Couple of comments: let me state upfront that i know absolutely nothing about the film makers or the cast of this film. What I do know is that the movie is a strange cocktail between the traditional Italian crime movie and the unexpected friendship that seems to develop between the thug/hostage taker and the victim/hostage. Jack offers in jest "It's Stockholm syndrome!". It's the dynamic between the Jack and Ludovico characters that form the core of this film, far more so that the traditional crime aspects. But because the movie does go back and forth between these two very different aspects, it makes for some challenging viewing at times. That said. These 95 min came and went pretty quickly.

Even though this movie was released in Italy in 2021, the movie didn't make it onto the US until Netflix started streaming it some months ago. Netflix had suggested it to me based on my viewing habits. (I will admit that these recommendations are more often than not right on the money for me.) I saw "The Turning Point" earlier this week. If you are in the mood for an Italian film that offers a strange cocktail of crime drama with a character study of two very different guys stuck in an apartment for a long stretch of time, I'd readily suggest you check this out and draw your own conclusion.

Good, but lacking
mrwildgoose15 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's a feel good movie for the most part, but would have been great if it ended in some sort of redemption for the characters. Also quite a few logical loop holes. Wouldn't you be able to trace someone's identity from their bike number plate? Even if it's a rental (unlikely, since he had a helmet). How could you be certain that someone is holed up in a certain set of buildings? Could he not have gotten away that first night? Who comes back for a dinner party when their life is on the line? Would you not take out the ace shooter first? And the ending was totally improbable. Went from a buddy rom-com to a dark drama in minutes. Unsatisfactory climax.

Honor Among Thieves
kevinodonnell-2821225 April 2022
A chance encounter between the film's two protagonists sets in motion a series of events that are foreseen and unforeseen, in this simple and direct well-told story. The building tension in the film's last part is fairly palpable, as we see the thief meet his denouement.

Bizarre
qui_j21 April 2022
This is a movie about highly improbable events. It's like a play on a "Stockholm Syndrome" type of situation, but just seems to stumble from one bit of silliness to the other, with the usual dialog about philosophy and morals. It may be targeted solely at an Italian audience for whom the content may have more meaning, but has little in the way of global appeal.

Incredible movie ...

The hidden mode of overcoming depression is taken in full effect. It often takes another person to get one off of meds and wake them up.

Nice style and substance, different than most flicks.

Enjoy.

different
silviaavnet27 April 2022
I did not know exactly what I was going to watch so.... I had no expectations.

Surprise, surprise!!! I liked it very much, different of all the movies I've watched lately, and that is A LOT !!! The two main characters are wonderful, human...after all. I recomend it from the bottom of my heart. We don't always have to watch a GREAT MOVIE, sometimes, simplicity is enough.... Give it a change....

Very Sweet Little Film
ue-536604 May 2022
Unexpectedly very sweet and gentle film, well written, acted and directed. Both actors and characters are very good and likable.

The script is also quite funny and sad at the same time. Not a masterpiece but a very enjoyable watch. Apart from a little tear at the end.

Il Sorpasso 1962 Smart Remake!!
nassertone3 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I had no idea what I'm going to watch, but as the story unfolds, it immediately reminded me of the Great Classical Movie Il Sorpasso 1962. And I loved the art director creativity and how the apartment they are living in had Il Sorpasso Film Poster + An iconic photograph of the classical movie stars (Vittorio Gassman & Jean-Louis Trintignant driving their car).

Spoiler Alert: While, in Il Sorpasso the shy guy dies while the extrovert guy lives. I knew immediately that at the end of this movie the shy guy Ludovico will die. And exactly as I thought that what happened! Moreover, the writing and directing were just wow, (we never saw that Jack (The Extrovert Character) got shot with a bullet too until the very end and he dies too! & Oh Man! His death scene was so dramatic and emotional! Near the 'garbage can' he hid behind at the beginning of the movie, & the garbage can that he was supposed to hid inside till the garbage car comes and drives him to Brazil! Also, in the final frame we see the gift Ludovico gave him and it says "To my big brother Jack who gave me my life back. Sadly the opposite is the truth as he caused him to lose his life at the end.

One amazing directing aspect is: At the end of the shooting scene, we see the iconic photograph of Il Sorpasso movie stars (Vittorio Gassman & Jean-Louis Trintignant driving their car. But now there is a bullet in Jean-Louis Trintignant eye who was the shy guy in that movie. So this creatively tells us that the coming scene you will see will be the shy guy in this movie is dead too!

I loved the similarities and the differences too between the two movies! Well Done to the whole crew!

Super but sad
banagnathaniel20 September 2022
Didn't expect this movie to be awesome, truly a turning point. The characters played well and was super natural. This story goes to all of the nerds like me who wishes to have a cool friend or brother. It also goes to those who are battling depression and living their lives alone, as we all know depression is not easy though, this one rocks it and gave the viewers hope that there will always be a turning point where out lives can be exciting and will give us a shot of the adrenaline we've always been wanting. Was smiling and agitated while watching. This went beyond what was expected. I wish every Ludovico has a Jack friend! Bravo!

Friendship in the Most Uncommon Places
albertval-6956013 October 2022
This is a heartfelt story of bromance of the unlikeliest guys. It's a simple story but it has its tense moments. What I like about it is how the writer is able to capture the growing friendship of Jack and Ludovico in such uncommon circumstances. And as each peels off a bit of himself, I come to understand how this could be possible.

I wished the ending could have been different. I thought the viewer is being set up for a plot twist that did not happen. The plot is not condescending. What happened is so plausible.

Andrea Lattanzi and Brando Pacitto do a splendid job with their characters. Nothing is contrived or wooden. However, I wished the roles of Rebecca and Amanda were more meaty. But, as it is, the script doesn't give them that chance.

This film has the same vibes as the British film, "I Used to be Famous."

Sensitive crime film
searchanddestroy-11 May 2022
I have seen worst in new wave crime films and this one is a good surprise. An interesting psychological study of characters thru a crime scheme with mobsters. It is violent, sad, but cheap in the production design and directing too. Maybe a bit more ambition could have brought some more fresh blood, but the main thing is saved to keep interest from the audiences.
