Sex & Nudity

  • Sexual/Suggestive Content: Mild (There is a female ninja, named Kasuga, who wears an outfit that exposes some cleavage. She has a huge crush on a male samurai, named Kenshin, and she sometimes has fantasies when he says nice things about her, to her. During these, the background turns pink while roses and rose peddles appear as she blushes, hugs herself, and moans "Lord Kenshin" briefly.)/Nudity: None (There is no nudity at all in the whole show)
  • Toshiie and Matsu share a brief kiss.
  • A woman wears a kimono that shows some of her chest and legs.
  • There is some love/romance in the show but it's kept on a mild level.
  • Some heterosexual couples in the show. No other sexuality.
  • All of the females wear very short mini skirts or mini shorts, but there is no upskirt shots.
  • A characters is a huge sado-masochist that can be interpreted to be turned on by pain and takes great pleasure in causing great pain and suffering to others.

Violence & Gore

  • Blood: Mild, there is occasionally some blood like when civilians are killed by the main antagonist and/or his lackeys. You also see the aftermath of battles which usually shows heaps of dead bodies strewn across the battle field, sometimes there's some blood as well.
  • There's a scene showing a burning building and people are inside.
  • One episode has a focus on an army invading a castle, and other episodes have a focus on huge battles. During these invasions/battles, we see our characters fighting soldiers, and/or each other depending on who's side they're on.
  • There is no gore at all but there is some blood.
  • One character is shot at and dies from his wounds. There's a little blood during this scene from his gunshot wounds.
  • One character suffers from an illness and coughs a little blood occasionally.

Profanity

  • Profanity: Mild (The expletives damn, hell, and bastard are used)/Usage of Profanity: Mild (A few characters say the expletives damn, hell, and bastard a few times but it's rare)
  • Occasional use of damn, hell, and bastard, in the Japanese version.
  • In the English Sub (Japanese voice acting with English subtitles)/Japanese version, Masamune says, "This party is going to be crazy!" while heading into a battlefield. In the English Dub (English voice acting)/English version, they changed what he said originally to, "This is going to be one hell of a party!". The dialogue was changed slightly from the original script to suit American audiences.
  • There's worse language in the English version with Damn, Dammit, Hell, Bastard, Pissed, Ass, Bitch, and Shit being used in the dialogue. Bitch and Shit are very rarely used while the other ones are a little more common but still aren't used that much. The Japanese version only contains Damn, Dammit, Hell, and Bastard, all being rarely used.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Alcohol: None (There is no alcohol or even alcohol references in the whole show)/Drugs: None (There are no drugs or even drug references in the whole show)/Smoking: None (There is no smoking or even references to smoking in the whole show)
  • None at all.
  • Sake (Japanese wine) is briefly mentioned in the English version.
  • There is an old lord who is always seeing drinking sake(alcohol) from a bottle, though he denies this when asked but it's very clear what he's drinking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This show can be emotional at times. There are scenes that will make people happy, scenes that will make people sad (and possibly cry), and scenes that will make people laugh.
  • There are no frightening scenes but there are a few scenes that may be slightly intense for young children.

  • Kasuga has a crush on Kenshin.

Violence & Gore

  • There's a scene with Mitsuhide killing a priest. Mitsuhide slashes at the priest and he drops on the floor, dead. We see him dead, with his eyes and mouth open, on the floor with a small pool of blood under him, and then we see Mitsuhide's scythe with a little bit of blood on the bladed part.
  • There's a ninja fight scene with Sasuke and Kasuga vs Kotaro. There's a lot of action during this fight but there is no blood shown and nobody dies.
