When six is a seven Or When a 7 is really a 6 Or maybe a 5.75
cbisbee-7399530 April 2021
There was a PSA some years ago about drugs and the effect they have on a person. The ad showed images, such as, eggs frying on a stove-top, with the refrain: "This is your brain on drugs. Any questions?" This is a Hallmark romance movie. Any questions? The leads where capable and had a good chemistry between each other. The supporting cast were good and it is always good to see more older actors in these roles. Hallmark has always been good in that area. The story was interesting, a romance about romance, or love is there to find when two people are sent to write about romance in a small town. If you are passionate about sunflowers, you will go bonkers from all the sunflowers. Real ones, fake ones, and sunflower jewelry. If you like romance, it's a good watch. I don't remember if they kissed though.

I gave it a seven. It's a good Hallmark movie, not a great Hallmark movie. I probably should give it a 5.75. But it is a good Hallmark movie.

Sweet story, but
Jackbv12329 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This story uses a lot of the common plot themes and devices, but uses them a little differently than the usual. It's predictable, but sweet. One nice thing about it was several mini-stories as couples told about their experiences with Olivia.

The common themes are presented a little differently and that results in some convoluted, clumsy moments. The biggest is the conflict. The writers had to work hard to piece together the logic that made it a conflict. It was "the best I've seen" but it's going to be hard to keep from getting you fired. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

If you put Erin Cahill in anything, I'll watch it and probably enjoy it. She had decent chemistry with Marcus Rosner, but he was a little flat. At least they leads had plenty of screen time together.

Nice Place; Introverts Unite Thanks To Committed Matchmaker.
otisarea22 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's a nice enough story, but the casting seemed a little bit off. It also seemed like the two main characters went from being complete strangers, to wanting to spend their life together in no time flat. It would have been nice to have had the story be a bit longer. Perhaps involving meeting some of Kate's friends from when she lived there, to fill in some back story, about how she idolized the 'Town Matchmaker.'

Even though the COVID-19 Pandemic was in full swing in 2021, the friend could have been in a local hospital and had to wear a mask, to meet safety concerns.

The publisher's didn't seem like a world traveling type, as he seemed very introverted. The writers could have plotted that he was sent to the Seattle paper to scout new talent, so he knew something about Kate, the main character, and could be less stiff overall.

Stories of the Matchmaker commitment, seem too good to believe, as real life goes.

Some great scenery and cinematography, but it wasn't enough to give the movie a higher rating.

A nice, enjoyable movie under the sun, among sunflowers
RaniaALDMR1 January 2022
A beautiful, nice and enjoyable movie. I like both of the actors, Erin Cahill and Marcus Rosner, but not together: Erin Cahill looks older than Rosner and there is no chemistry between them; it's the only thing that I didn't like.

I think the casting of the leads is often an issue in most of the romantic comedies unfortunately.

Beautiful film

This is such a wonderful, gentle & heartfelt film. Beautiful story & excellent script. Erin Cahill & Marcus Rosner are good together as the main characters. This is my kind of romance film. The location is absolutely gorgeous & sunflowers are one of my favourite flowers.

Cutesy coda of a soul mate for all
Weirdling_Wolf25 April 2024
'Love Stories from Sunflower Valley' (2021) - Rob Lieberman.

This cuddly, earnestly heart string plucking drama stars photogenic Hallmark veterans Erin Cahill and Marcus Possner. Frustrated dogsbody, and aspiring journalist returns to her beloved hometown as assistant to hunky, gentlemanly reporter to write a feature on local altruistic matchmaker. Needless to say, awkward coffee-spilling beginnings belie inexorable chemistry, and true love rapidly blooms in picturesque Sunflower Valley. A bountiful harvest of small-town hospitality, folksy mommy-knows-best schmear, dewy-eyed reminisces, and heartfelt glances over home cooking, warmed fuzzily by sun dappled sentiment! Fine performances, and a lovely location do much to ease the drama's occasional lapses into cloying, love conquers all cliche. I appreciated the pleasing lack of enforced comedy, and don't have a problem with the film's well-meaning, wholly fantastical coda of there's a soul mate for all.

Wasted Potential
willberfollower24 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was your average romance cringe, but losses a star simply for wasted potential. This one had a Simi original plot it seemed to set up interesting plot points. Unfortunately I definitely over estimated the creativity of this genre.

They show this object Olivia had given to people at their wedding. Leading me to believe it would have some significance. The guy then mentions his parents were happily married leaving me to think that there would be a plot twist that his parents were set up by Olivia as well. With both the factor of the object and the guys parents with my expectations of this movie building up I presumed some how Olivia after her death had also manage to set up Kate with this guy and the movie would end with them mysteriously receiving the object.

Overall I learned I must stop expecting any good plots out of these hopeless, low budget, poorly written romances.

I love sunflowers and I love Sunflower Valey and..........
jnh-123-7467869 May 2021
I loved this movie! I agree with the previous reviewer who said it should be the beginning of a series. It certainly has the potential with a great team of actors with good chemistry and a solid story line that could certainly be developed in a similar vein to Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Bring it on I say!

This should be a series
fshsafshsa6 May 2021
I really enjoyed this movie. It was wonderful. The scenery was beautiful. The couple had great chemistry. They should make more movies together if this doesn't become a series. I think others would enjoy to hear about and see more couples Olivia brang together.

Surprisingly good
MargeZee27 August 2021
What a surprisingly good movie! Great actors, too. As always, Erin Cahill did well. The guy was actually pretty good in this, too. Plot was good, writing was better and the direction was just right for a tv movie romance. I do not expect too much for these types of movies so this one was a pleasant treat.

elegance and naturalism
Crowe20919 August 2021
The influence of nature pervades this film, and the director made some smart choices in allowing more silence than is typically found in TV movies, an understated score, and breathtaking camera work. The actors are at their best - the range of emotions Erin Cahill has access to is astonishing, as is the vulnerability shown by Marcus Rosner. This appears to be the first romance from the director, and the first completed teleplay attributed to the writer. I hope in both cases it's the first of many.

Relaxing summer setting but would prefer it as a TV series
SunnyDaise9 January 2023
This is quite different from the usual movies of the genre, but it is a bit too wordy for me - I'd prefer to see not hear the stories. Visualizing the tales and expanding them would give a TV series akin to the Signed Sealed Delivered episodes. In this current format, I feel a bit of information overload and like I've rushed every course of a meal down rather than savoring them. When I repeat view, I'll watch in segments each night before sleep as a way to wind down after a busy day. The casting is great with a beautiful location, so here's hoping they can reformat for a feel-good rom-com-non-murder-mystery.

Awesome

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a great review-writer, but I loved this movie. I like these kind of films in the first place, but it was particularly enjoyable to see a tv romance film with a slightly different sequence of events than the norm. Drew is an absolute gentleman - a truly stand-up guy; they couldn't have cast a better actor to play him. It was nice to the character of Drew be the hero of the movie, while Kate of course is an equally great person, and they complement each other well. I think this movie could inspire men to be true gentlemen, and can be an inspiration for many on the pursuit of love. I very much recommend this one if you like tv romance films.

A pretty movie with lovely scenery.
rosey-1423 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Erin Cahill always produces the goods, even with poor scripts and uninspiring romantic leads, this one was well acted and she leads relative newcomer Marcus Rosner effectively. It's nice to see Rosner progress from self absorbed boyfriend to romantic lead, he has brought a gentleness to the roles, quite a difference from some of the supporting roles he's been cast in.

This was the usual format, with some lovely scenery and lots of wasps in some scenes a good supporting cast. I do question the age of his father and her mother though, both seemed very young for the roles given the leads ages but that aside, it was an enjoyable 90 minutes to pass the time, however not memorable or one I'd re-watch.

I'm not sure why the usual paid reviewers give these a 10, quaint, pleasant and gentle but not exactly Oscar material.
