A group of malcontents don their cowboy garb, wrap themselves in half-truths; ignoring science and common decency. A series of fictions parading as patriotism, this series is a withering display of Shasta County and its communities at their utter worst. Abandoning most signs of intelligence, the overly dramatic drawn-out pace of this shambles lacks substance, riddled instead with catch phrases, idioms and dog whistles intended to serve as kibble to feed their base of followers false information and emotional rhetoric. Patrick Jones, himself a current county supervisor displays an utter lack of understanding as to what his job is, and how he's supposed to do it. Ditto, his colleague Les Baugh. Ranchette owner Carlos Zapata wears his machismo as if he just scored a threadbare punk band T-shirt at a thrift store-- it definitely means more to him than to even the most ardent viewer. The business owners involved in this series all complain about the economic impacts to them from the COVID situation, and yet, most of them remained open through the past sixteen months (some even bragging about record income), and almost all of them also benefitted from PPP loans. It's a real embarrassment to see such sheer stupidity living and fomenting itself in one of the most beautiful parts of California. A "docuseries" is an unfortunate platform for such growlery.
