The blokes who flex their muscles in Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts events are mostly a larger-than-life blend of showmanship and brawn – which explains why they’re increasingly being snapped up by Hollywood. With more and more Mma fighters moving into the movies, I thought I’d take a look at some of the biggest names to have made the crossover.
Tony Schiena
Winner of numerous Mma trophies around the globe, Schiena flexed his acting chops in Locked Down as a framed cop who winds up in jail and is forced into cage fighting by none other than Brit hardman turned thesp Vinnie Jones. Schiena retired from sport after breaking both his ankles (ouch!) but has since found his feet on the big screen working with everyone from Pacino to Van Damme.

Famed for fierce body slams that won him the Ufc light heavyweight title...

Dallas-based Big Headz Entertainment filed suit today in Los Angeles Superior Court against Jmpb Inc. (aka Mbp) and One Three Television, both of which have ties to prolific reality show producer Mark Burnett. The complaint alleges failure to properly account for revenues of the MTV show entitled Bully Beatdown. (You can read it here.) It claims Mbp is controlled by Burnett and One Three TV also is controlled by Burnett as well as the assignee of Mbp’s rights to Bully Beatdown. Big Headz says it initially entered into an agreement in 2007 to develop Bully Beatdown which aired on MTV in 2009 and 2010. Big Headz says it received from Mpb in 2011 only three “incomplete, inaccurate, and misleading” financial reports which claimed that increased production costs resulted in zero payments because Bully Beatdown was operating at a loss. Big Headz wants a full access to Mbp’s books and records relating to the series,...

CBS Television Distribution president John Nogawski went outside the company and outside the syndication world for a successor to Terry Wood, president of creative affairs and development, who recently departed Ctd after 12 years. Aaron Meyerson, whose background is in cable reality TV, digital media and features, has been named president, programming and development for CBS TV Distribution. He will be responsible for all first-run development and will oversee Ctd’s current programming, including veterans Entertainment Tonight, Judge Judy and Rachael Ray. Nogawski acknowledged Meyerson's unorthodox background in his statement. “Having developed hit shows for Oxygen and MTV, Aaron brings a new sensibility to the syndication marketplace," Nogawski said. "He comes to us with a fresh set of eyes, knowledge of our core female audience and an acumen for creating new financial models for production." Meyerson joins Ctd from the digital media tech startup, Coincident TV, where he was a principal.

Even though Sarah Palin is ostensibly a politician, doesn't she feel more like a reality star? She's polarizing, usually at the center of controversy and has had her family's life strewn all over the press. (In these instances, she's not all that different from Kate Gosselin.) So it makes sense that there are reports that Palin is shopping a reality show with the help of "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett.
According to the report in Entertainment Weekly, Palin has been taking meetings with networks about "a docudrama about Alaska" that has been described as a "'Planet Earth' type look" at the state. Though Burnett is best known for shows like "The Apprentice," "Rock Star" and the best show currently on MTV (that would be "Bully Beatdown"), the show that Palin appears to be presenting sounds pretty straight-laced.
But the former governor knows how to do sensationalism, which is why...

MTV in Canada is set to premier two all-new reality programs tonight. As part of its revised Tuesday night 1O Spot schedule, the network has added "College Life", a raw look into the ups and downs of university freshmen, and Mark Burnett's "Bully Beatdown", a boot camp ran by Mma fighter Jason "Mayhem" Miller with anti-bullying message.
From former Comedy Network exec Brent Haynes comes "College Life", premised as an unedited probe into the drama of collegiate life at the University of Wisconsin. Equipped with hand-held video cameras and a lot of free time, a group of students are commissioned to capture their first year stories for curious television viewers.
Anyone who has ever been bullied can get their fill of revenge with the "Bully Beatdown". With the help of his behind-the-ropes skills Mma fighter Jason Miller takes a crop of defenseless runts and turns them into fearsome bully challengers.
