Kind of Easter Island in the Middle East

Warning: Spoilers
Or was it Africa? Doesn't matter.

Natives, especially the elderly leader, felt threatened by the presence of western scientists, so using a dream stone, he managed to bring the golden guardians to life and scare the people away, the scientists that is.

So Quinn and company show up to find the camp a wreck. They investigate.

Pete stumbles upon a large diamond when touched, causes the toucher to fall asleep and 'brings dreams' to life, usually just the golden guardians.

So Pete does this and the golden guardian coats Godzilla in gold, like a statue.

Quinn manages to wake Pete, but now they have to free Godzilla.

The old man brings all the gold guardians to life (like Easter Island, tho looking nothing like those statues, they are just heads sticking up out of the ground), suddenly Godzilla (now free of his gold prison) must contend with several four-armed statue giants.

The dream stone is destroyed and now no one is controlling the giants.

But Godzilla tricks them and bring an end to their threat. Thank goodness.

Just a very amusing exchange between the two scientists when they first see the golden guardian.

"That thing must be made of solid gold!" "Perhaps there is a treasure here to be found!" "Not at the cost of our own lives!"
