Bunnies, blood, and boobs...what more could you want?

I was fortunate enough to view "Serial Rabbit 3: Splitting Hares" both, at it's premier at the Alamo Drafthouse - Westlakes in San Antonio, and in the comfort of my own home on DVD. I found it to be a hilarious, engaging lampoon of the slasher movies of the '80s and '90s. Like it's predecessors from the '70s (movies such as "The Boob Tube" and "Kentucky Fried Movie"), "SR3" has it's tongue firmly planted in it's cheek as it leaves no sacred cow un-tipped. Some of the dialog is cheesy and predictable, but still brought out laughter in the audience because it was clearly meant to be cheesy and predictable. Ponderous Productions, under the leadership of Brett Mauser, did a wonderful job of showcasing the locations and talent available in Central Texas to indie filmmakers. Between this movie, "Bass Reeves", and the 10 feature-length films of "The Innocence Saga", Mr. Mauser and crew have clearly shown they are capable of stepping up and filling the creativity gap left in recent years by the big studios on the coast.

If you are looking for the next "Palm d'Or" winner, this ain't it. But, if you are looking for some light, action-packed comedy that hearkens back to The Three Stooges and The Marx Brothers, they definitely check this one out on Netflix!

Pure crap

After reading the two other reviews, which were clearly written by people involved in the production, I felt I had to set the record straight. This is a very poor film in every way possible. The story is intentionally cliché, and unbearably contrived. The performances are embarrassing. The cinematography is abysmal, and the overall production value is nonexistent. The filmmakers should have realized that intentionally bad movies almost never work, and this movie seems like one big in-joke that I don't want to be included in. I'm sure the actors and crew involved get a huge kick out of watching their campy little movie, but I'm almost positive they are the only ones laughing.

Warning: Spoilers
SERIAL RABBIT 3: SPLITTING HARES is the third film in a franchise I've been thus far unfamiliar with, thank goodness. As a film, it's a dog of a production, seemingly shot in a car park somewhere on a non-existent budget. The plot is about a guy in a rabbit costume going around murdering people, but a horror film this isn't. Nor is it a comedy, or a spoof; I have no real idea of what it's supposed to be. It's shot in black and white in an attempt to give it some style and artiness, and you can tell it really wants to be sexy, but when the content is so lacking, that's a real waste of time too.
