After the detectives declare Kristen Laine dead, her eye twitches as they move her body.
When detectives Brian Heigh (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Mike Souder (Sam Worthington) drive away from the first crime scene and pick up Ann Sliger (Chloe Grace Moretz), the license plate number on their departmental car is HGY-191. When they arrive a Ann's house to drop her off, the license plate number has changed to 61W-05N. Additionally, police department cars in Texas have "numbers only'" license plates.
At the beginning of the film when Little Ann is staring at the petrol station she is carrying a backpack, but when Detective Heigh picks her up later in the evening, the backpack has disappeared.
When the detectives find Little Ann in the killing fields she is bound both hand and foot. Detective Souder cuts the rope binding her feet, but not her hands. Detective Heigh picks her up with her hands still tied, but in the next scene her hands are free.
Little Anne is seen grooming her hair, which has a slight waviness to it, but after her mother kicks her out, Little Anne is then seen at a convenience store, hair straight and brushed through.
Sam Worthington as Souder describes the Green Pontiac as having a dent in the back and having custom wheels. At that point in the movie there is no visible dent in the back of the Pontiac and the wheels are not custom, they are stock Pontiac wheels (on the Blu-ray and possibly on the DVD as well in pause mode, a viewer can clearly see the Pontiac logo of a red arrowhead on the hub of the wheels).
Detective Mike Souder's AR-15 does not have a rear sight. No law enforcement officer would ever carry a rifle in this configuration as it makes the gun almost impossible to aim.
In the opening shot(s) of the abandoned car, the silhouette of the steady-cam operators is seen on the pavement right after we see the car interior.
The shadows of the cameraman and another crew member are visible on the blacktop in the shot at the beginning of the film.
Liquor is shown for sale inside a convenience store. While this is legal in the filming location in Louisiana, it's not legal in the state of Texas.
