Featured review
A fruit and vegetable farmer in Quebec reflects on his profession and the difficulty of finding someone to take over his business.
This sensitive short documentary shows a Quebec farmer reflecting on the arduous nature of his profession and the near-impossibility of finding a successor, as his two children have chosen other fields of study. We see the different seasons in a series of beautiful images, such as covering the strawberries with straw in autumn, crashing through the rows of corn in August, digging up the beetroots in winter through a grey haze of drizzle. The sound is impressive, with cracking branches, the snap of picked vegetables , the splash of a woodland pool and tractor engines lending a special atmosphere. A simple piano melody by Bach introduces the film and lends a poignant note to the fall landscape. A young director to watch out for in the future!
