Old Flames Return
College Street (Toronto) Youth Services co-ordinator Kate Brown (Lally Cadeau) is sore at co-worker Mike DiFalco (Eisner) because he wouldn't do a presentation at a seminar in her place. Mike claims panic attacks impair his public speaking ability and cites a traumatic event from his teen years as the cause.
Kate's old flame Jerry Loftus (Robin Ward) - the counsellor whom Mike replaced drops by the centre. Mike is worried that Jerry is after his job. Jerry however needs a favour from Kate that puts her in an uncomfortable position.
This was episode 55 in the 110 episode run of the series making it the midpoint of this landmark Canadian show. In addition to Robin Ward other guest stars in this episode included Mary-Louise Zeitoun, Tony Sheer (known more for writing than acting), Cindy Shirling, Debi Kisluk.
Robin Ward of course did a lot more than act to pay the bills. Included in that were stints as a game show host and a weatherman. Here, portraying a desperate character who evokes both sympathy and consternation he delivers a very balanced characterization.
