Terrible but considering the budget, I can forgive it....a bit.

"Kung Fu Joe" is a super-low budget film about a cool guy who decides, against his better judgment, to help the police. While $150,000 might sound like a lot of money, for a movie it is nothing....absolutely nothing. And, it appears as if most of the budget was spent on wigs and fake mustaches. The film is a STRANGE thing--a 70s blacksploitation film made in the 21st century and starring all white guys--including Joe himself. The problem is that it just isn't very funny. I know the folks tried their best and for a super-low budget film, it's actually a lot better than you'd expect. Heck, Hollywood makes MUCH worse films with budgets 50 times larger!! Given more experience, better writing and more money, these filmmakers COULD amount to something....but it still looks like they need time and experience. Good luck.

Brilliant Local Comedy

Warning: Spoilers
I saw this film on opening night at the Pickford Theatre in Bellingham, and Kung Fu Joe himself, the Director, and the Potted Plant Guy were there to answer questions and everything. All in all, a wonderful night.

The film itself started strong with zippy jokes, and loads of overall silliness. Lots of clever little jokes were added in various scenes which made me laugh quite heartily ("Alexander Hamilton...was never President" - Brilliant!).

The acting was all very professional as well. It was by no means a Hollywood performance, but for a local film on a small budget, the actors were very talented. They seemed very aware of what they were spoofing and adjusted their performances accordingly.

The pace of the story was a little wonky; it sped up and slowed down in places, but it still manages to keep a pretty good clip even in the slower sections, so you won't get bored, that's for sure.

There are also tons of little things in the background to look for. Things changing from one cut to another, silly things like that. It's a very fun movie to see, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to add a little fun to their weekly movie-night.

Hope to see a Kung Fu Joe 2 before too long! Get to work, Berry!
