Stoner Rock is an altar of worship to the almighty riff. Chronicling the history of the genre from its early roots in the late-'60s - '70s with bands like Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath to Pentagram, leading to the luminaries who started and defined the sound like Kyuss and Sleep and capping it off with contemporary acts like Comets on Fire, Dead Meadow and Fatso Jetson. Live performances of the bands are adequately featured giving the viewer enough time to fully appreciate the music and skill of the bands. Art plays a huge role in the genre, and the prominent artists discuss their part in contributing to the great art form. The practitioners discuss their influences, their music and the challenges of working outside the mainstream. Pretty much flawless and filled with top-notch music, "Such Hawks Such Hounds" is the definitive Stoner documentary. Light a good one and have a blast.
