Synopsis

  • Don, John, Maureen, and Scarecrow are walking through the hills, and Don is going on about the scavenging he did at the orphanage where he grew up. John and Maureen are less than thrilled, particularly when Don claims he's establishing a bond with the robot. Scarecrow leads them to a ship and Maureen wonders if it's telling them there's an engine on the ship. John spots twelve robots on patrol around the ship, and Maureen realizes they're gathering parts from their fallen. Scarecrow uses rocks to indicate it'll take out two while they take out ten.

Judy and Grant get the pods down the cliff, and Judy says that when she was falling, she realized that nothing else mattered. Penny and some of the others find them, and Judy introduces Penny to Grant. Penny hugs Grant, much to his surprise, and Vijay and Liam say that it's an honor to meet Grant. They take the pods back to the teenagers' camp and Judy introduces Victor to the others. She goes over everyone's progress, and Robot comes over and "stares" at Grant. Smith tells Grant that Robot is trying to decide if Grant is a threat. Robot walks off, and Smith introduces herself to Grant, who has heard from Judy that Smith is the French teacher. Smith doesn't speak French, and walks off. He has the teenagers take the pods to the Jupiter to power them. Penny tells Judy that Will fixed the thruster, and he's off documenting the alien city.

Will is in the tunnels video what he's doing, and finds a heavily damaged chamber. The room was a brunt of a volcanic event, and he finds a skeleton. Will confirms that it's one of the robots' creators, and it built the robots in a form similar to its own.

Back at their Jupiter, Don rigs the Chariot to bypass its supposed top speed. Once John and Don have the engine, Maureen will pick them up in the Jupiter. John isn't happy about leaving Maureen with Scarecrow, but it's that or lad the ten robots off in the Chariot. Don figures that Scarecrow is in it for itself, just like they are. He wonders where Scarecrow is.

Grant looks over the Jupiter controls, and says that he looks forward on training Judy on the Fortuna controls when they get to the colony. He wonders who programs the autopilot, and they talk about Maureen who helped program the autopilot. Penny comes in and leads Judy off to give her a progress report,

Vijay gives Smith a physical, and tells her Judy normally handles it but she's busy. He says that they're giving physical to everyone before they take off, and she figures he wants to put her in one of the pods.

Will continues exploring, and finds an alien structure at the bottom of a chasm. He finds a control panel on his level and handprints, and touches one of the controls. There's no response, and Will goes back to the skeleton and removes one of its hands.

John finds Scarecrow using one of the Jupiter's control panels. It then walks out, and Maureen comes in as John goes to the control panel. He tells her what Scarecrow was doing, and he confirms that it shows the location of the Sunshine base. John wonders if Scarecrow was spying, and Maureen discovers another panel where Scarecrow brought up Ben Adler's control panel and wonders if the robot was remembering Ben. John wonders if they were good memories, and opens a case with an EMF device.

Will uses the hand to activate the controls and the machinery emits a sound. The boy realizes that the sound was more than just the robots' technology interacting with the human technology, and sets off more sounds.

Penny gives Judy the report, and Judy figures they should go now. She calls Will but gets no response, and Penny admits that Will has the map. Smith is passing and overhears the sisters talking, and says that she knows the way and can take them. Judy finally agrees and goes with Smith.

Maureen watches Scarecrow head to the alien ship, and John joins his wife. He wonders if Scarecrow will abandon them, but Maureen doesn't think that the robot will. John gives her the EMF device Maureen brought from the Resolute. She takes it and wishes John luck on his mission to lure the robots away in the Chariot.

As they check the Jupiter for departure, Vijay complains to Penny about how Liam wouldn't shut up about himself during the climb. He finally asks Penny if her parents mentioned his parents when Penny talked to the former, and Penny points out that they didn't have a lot of time to talk. Vijay explains that he's spent the last year pretending they were at summer camp, because it was too hard wondering if their parents didn't make it. Penny says that she's sure Vijay's parents are fine, and they get a signal from the computer that they should launch immediately.

Penny and Vijay find Grant, and tell him that they can't find Judy or Will. Grant says that they'll talk through it and Vijay explains that they've gotten more data, and there are too many asteroids. If they don't launch, the autopilot won't let them turn on the engines. Grant disables the autopilot and tells the teenagers that they can launch without it.

Smith leads Judy to Will, and says that she can fly the Jupiter. Judy figures that Smith doesn't want to go into the cryotube, and Smith says that Grant should go into the tube. Judy says that she knows everything about Grant that matters, and Smith wonders how she knows Judy won't shove her into a police station when they get to Alpha Centauri. She says that she doesn't trust anyone, and the one thing worse than being bad is being powerless. As they talk, Smith secretly slips a pick from the back of her belt, and says that she needs stronger than Judy's word, Judy says that she's all that she has, and before Judy can club her, they hear the alien sound and Judy figures that it's Will. Smith sighs in relief and the two of them continue their search.

Will continues to activate the sounds. On the Jupiter, Robot senses the noises then says "Trust, Will Robinson" and goes back to work. One of the fingers breaks off the skeletal hand, and Will manages to hold it on long enough to record the last few sounds, and then runs out of the chamber collapsing because of the sounds. Judy and Smith find Will, just as the door between them starts closing. Smith uses her pick to jam the door open so Will can get out, taking his record with the sounds with him. The pick breaks when the door closes, and Will sees it and says that it's a good thing Smith had it with her.

John and Don push the Chariot out of the Jupiter, and Don wonders if Maureen is okay with Scarecrow. John says that his wife knows what to do if things go bad.

Maureen and Scarecrow wait, and a clouds of floating sparks fall out of the sky. Scarecrow looks at them, and Maureen notices. She asks Scarecrow what it's going to do when everything is over, and if it has a place to go to after it takes them to Alpha Centauri. Maureen asks if it's looking for a new home like they are, and says what they did to it was wrong. Scarecrow turns and looks at her, and Maureen promises that what happened to it on Resolute will never happen again. She says that she hasn't been worthy of Scarecrow' trust, and opens the case with the EMF but discovers it has been destroyed. Maureen asks if Scarecrow destroyed it, and the robot turns away.

Judy returns to the Jupiter and tells the teenagers that it's going to be a bumpy ride and they should make sure everything is tied down. Penny tells Judy to talk to Grant, while Will tell Robot that it did the right thing staying with the ship, and he found something that could help them later. Meanwhile, Judy talks to Grant about him shutting down the autopilot. He defends his decision, saying he can fly the Jupiter off the planet. Grant says that the computer kept him in the cryotube, and if it was up to him he would have woken up and shut off the signal that drew the teenagers off course, and none of them would be there. Judy says that she doesn't know, and Grant tells her that she does know and walks off.

Will finds Smith in his cabin, taking the recorder. She says that she can get it from him on Alpha Centauri when he lets her out of her tube, and Smith admits that it's her "insurance policy". Will says that he's Smith's insurance policy, and he needs Smith to distract his family so he and Robot can sneak off. He needs her out of the tube, guaranteeing she'll be released. Smith agrees to Will's offer and hands back the recorder.

Later, Judy puts Smith in her tube and Will helps, nodding to Smith.

The teenagers prepare to leave and Liam asks Will why they don't use the alien engine. Will explains that they have to be in orbit to safely use the engine, and Grant launches the Jupiter with Judy and Penny as copilots. Grant navigates the ship through the asteroid field surrounding the planet, brushing against some of the asteroids. He ignores the computer's advice despite Judy saying he should follow the computer's advice, and tells him to follow the recommended course or stand down. When Grant continues following on his course, Judy goes to Maureen's autopilot and turns it back on. The autopilot takes them out of the field, and Grant calls Judy "Captain" as a sign of respect. He says that he met Maureen when they were in the astronaut training program together, and Judy is surprised that her mother was going to be an astronaut.

Maureen watches the alien ship, and the Chariot nearby. The two men begin their run to lure the robots away from their ship, and Scarecrow runs to the ship. While John takes evasive action, Don uses coolant to lower the temperature on the overheating engines. When Scarecrow goes into the ship but Maureen doesn't see it emerge, she goes to it.

Don runs out of coolant and warns that soon they'll be slowing down. John wonders what is taking Maureen and Scarecrow so long.

Maureen sees a battle within the ship, and a robot part rolls down the gangplank. After a minute Scarecrow come out with the engine.

John realizes that they're losing speed but the pursuing robots aren't getting any closer. He brakes the Chariot to a halt and has Don looks back, and Don confirms that the robots have stopped. John explains that the robots were distracting them and it's a trap.

Maureen goes to Scarecrow and prepares to fire flare signaling the men that they have the engine. Two robots emerge from the ground between her and Scarecrow, and attack Scarecrow. They knock it out and it drops the engine, and SAR emerges and grabs it. Maureen hides, and SAR jams a spike from its claw into Scarecrow's head.

Flying the Jupiter to the rendezvous with the Chariot, Maureen tells the men that they lost Scarecrow and their chance of getting to Alpha Centauri.
