Tells the story about a poor Italian man named Giovanni as he makes his way through life, where he finds love, loses everything, and finds himself again.
In a stylistic mash-up of the French New Wave and Italian Neorealist films, the story follows the ups and downs of Giovanni's life. Along the way he finds love, tragedy, family, loss, soothsayers, blanket vendors, Frenchmen, and a new outlook on life.—Gabe Evans
Giovanni and Bridgette are young and in love. They're poor and happy, and Bridgette gets pregnant. They encounter a group of snobby bourgeoisie who can tell that the young couple aren't rich, so they kill Bridgette and leave Giovanni alone with a newborn baby girl. Poverty strikes the world, hard. Giovanni has to pawn a pillow to get rice for his baby to eat, but when he gets home he finds that someone has broken into his apartment and killed his child. Giovanni has nothing left, and he finds himself in a pinata shop that belongs to a wise Soothsayer. The Soothsayer sends Giovanni on a mission to find himself, and Giovanni wanders the country-side in search of something good in the world.—Gabe Evans
