Ridiculous!
dogonlion3 June 2024
Have we gotten so used to the low quality TV programs on streaming services that we've lowered our standards so to think this is a good series? Nothing in this is remotely believable. What is the reason for this guy not being able to get rid of his crazy stalker? Why did he even get involved with her in the first place? It's not like he was attracted to her from the beginning. This series is trying to make something out of nothing. And why all the secrecy? Why can't he tell people that this woman is stalking him? Why is it that when he almost got rid of her he goes back to pick her up? I know why. Because they needed to make the show last a few episodes. This is one of the worst series I've seen in recent years. You want something good to watch from the UK, try Bad Sisters.

Painfully cringe
hannahmbergeron24 April 2024
I have no idea why this show is getting great reviews. The writing is like nails on a chalkboard. The dialogue doesn't flow. It seems needlessly wordy, like they're trying to make such huge points. But interactions can't be powerful if *every* interaction is trying to be powerful. It looks like actors reciting lines rather than genuine, believable relationships.

The main character has an internal monologue and it's so cringy. It reminds me of the flowery language of a high school poetry class. The camera always does tight shots on the guy's face, many per episode. I get that it's to show he's thinking deeply about whatever it is, but it is so heavy handed. They couldn't come up with another device to show his emotional struggle?

It was boring and felt amateurish. Yet another show trying to be edgy by covering 'shocking' topics and failing in skill and substance à la Saltburn.

Why This Series May Not Be Worth Your Time
rafael_rlzs22 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The series starts off promisingly-you might even feel good about it in the first or second episode. However, you soon realize that the protagonist consistently makes the worst decisions imaginable. If you enjoy a TV show where the main character leaves you feeling annoyed, angry, and itching to give them a metaphorical slap, then this might just be the show for you.

Although the story would be unbelievable as fiction, it turns out to be based on true events. The so-called protagonist here is never the victim he pretends to be. He made all the decisions that led him into increasingly absurd situations. He connected with the woman on social media and found himself in increasingly complicated situations. Similarly, his interactions with his 'agent' continued despite numerous warning signs. No, he's not a victim. You don't step in front of a lion and expect kindness.

Initially, I felt sympathy for him, but after witnessing his string of foolish choices, I realized he was orchestrating his own misfortune-and arguably deserved much of what happened due to his sheer foolishness.

I'm writing this to advise you not to waste your time as I did, hoping this piece of garbage would turn out to be worthwhile.

Awful!
annienew-4752520 April 2024
I'm not sure how are people rating this show so high? Reached episode 4 and the show just turned weird. Couldn't watch it any further. The jokes in the show didn't make me laugh. The only character I liked was Teri. To me the show didn't make much sense in the way it was going. It's awful that this a true story, but it wasn't engaging in any way. I felt like the show gives out a wrong message about how cowardly the main character is and how he didn't have the courage or the wisdom to report the incidents any sooner to the police. Again, I've only watched it upto mid episode 4, so my review is based on that.

Don't Waste your time

This first episode was really catching. Afterwards it just went downhill from there. If you are sane person who still have moral values left in todays modern society don't waste your time watching this show. Its Pathetic and Disgusting. Luckily it was only 7 episodes. My body and soul feels sick after watching this show. Should of stopped after episode 4. Only continued it because it was getting good ratings. Assuming it would end in good terms. Not even time will heal to take this show out my body. I don't know if I should feel sorry for the character or for myself for finishing this disgusting show.

Superficial self-loathing diary
mutilator-8815627 May 2024
People have been accusing Donny of being a unsympathetic loser protagonist, but in the 1970s this type of character was featured in many movies and made the careers of Jack Nicholson in the brilliant Five Easy Pieces (1970) and Robert De Niro's in Taxi Driver (1976). It's just as painful to watch them making odd choices that makes their lives miserable. De Niro also played a loser type dreaming to be a comedian in The King of Comedy (1982).

What was supposed to be character study comparable to Taxi Driver, on which De Niro's character Travis Bickle is also a vehicle of its author's personal memories, here Donny is just a dump of painful memories of Richard Gaad. You may have the facts on your screen but you have poor storytelling. The dialogues are not extraordinary and the voiceover is very annoying. The overbearing monologue was added as a shortcut to advance the plot or more annoyingly to describe just what is on screen. It's that kind of 'fish memory' narration.

It's surely provocative content but lacks depth. Just because you are dealing with strong themes it does not mean that the material itself is strong.

Snooze fest....
con830 April 2024
Uuuughhh where to begin......

This has to be the hardest series I've ever had to try and watch. I really wanted to make it through given its high rating and reviews... and I love a good bio flick or docuseries... wow this was soooooooo boring.

I stopped quite a few times and restarted quite a few times. I finally made it half way through episode 6. And I know this was supposed to be the episode that hits the hardest and I'm supposed to be all like wow and amazed and it's all supposed to be very emotional but ..... I can't even express the boredom I felt. The whole story is very unfortunate and shattering but... sadly I felt boredom before ANY of those things.

I have nothing else to say. Just boredom.

Was good but then it got too dark

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the Martha story and at first was completely hooked and wanted to watch more. I know this is a true story and the writer wanted to describe his experience but I unfortunately had to skip though the next couple of episodes with the rape scenes, I couldn't watch and didn't want to, was very awkward... I feel like some things can be left to the imagination without the need to go into the full detail. Netflix seems obsessive when it comes to showing sexual scenes and will add them in at any given opportunity. I miss the good old days when these things were limited and not thrown into every episode for the sake of it.

Truly disgusting
mikegibb-1234126 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I am never surprised when I read ten star reviews of second rate tv series or movies but to see people give such an accolade to this horrible mess of a series leaves me saddened and perplexed. A programme that has not so much scraped the bottom of the barrel but dug through it. A series where profanity is the norm displaying the writer's lack of talent. A series that glorifies taking all manner of drugs including ones that look to have come close to killing the central character. A progra me where are supposed to be entertained by the same guy staggering around vomiting. A series depicting male rape and graphically showing extreme porn. Rather than providing a warning of what the programme contained it would have been simpler to announce what it didn't. Add in a dire script and second rate acting by the author and you end up with as distasteful piece of television as i have ever scene.

Awfull....one of the most depressing TV shows of all time.
faridtelefoni10 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Overrated and depressing. I don't believe this to be an actual true story at all.

I dont care if they lied about it being realistic, and it really is sad for the real people this was based off. But it was just miserable to sit through. It started off fine, and I liked the dark comedy elements of it. Then after the rape it just devolved into misery. I couldnt even finish it (I stopped mid episode 6 when I realized its not going to have a happy ending) because Im sure it has a depressing ending. Dont advertise as being a comedy, when its really just misery porn. The trailer even made it look like a comedy, which it very much isnt.

It felt like a bait and switch. I get that it was advertised as a "Dark" comedy. But other then the main characters witty jokes, it wasnt funny in the slightest. I just felt depressed and unhappy after watching it, and thats not what I was looking for.

Making this kind of shows should be banned.

Terrible
magicpenismushroom12 May 2024
I had high hopes for Baby Reindeer, but sadly, it fell flat on every level. From the lackluster plot to the uninspired acting, this show failed to deliver anything remotely entertaining.

The storyline was disjointed and confusing, with gaping plot holes that left me scratching my head in frustration. Characters lacked depth and development, making it impossible to invest in their journeys or care about their fates.

Moreover, the production quality was abysmal, with shoddy special effects and cheap-looking sets that detracted from any potential enjoyment. It felt like the creators cut corners at every turn, resulting in a visually unappealing mess.

To make matters worse, the pacing was glacial, dragging out scenes that should have been concise and rushing through moments that needed more attention. It was a chore to sit through each episode, hoping in vain for some semblance of improvement.

Overall, Baby Reindeer is a prime example of wasted potential. Save yourself the disappointment and steer clear of this disastrous offering on Netflix.

Warning: Spoilers
"The most useless character you can find in a TV show or series.

You shouldn't waste a single second on this show."

This person has been exploited by everyone for his own advancement and hasn't completed his work properly. Now for the second time, he is taking a leave of absence, expecting everyone to go out of their way for him.

And of course, it clearly shows that men can also be subjected to gender-based exploitation. The only useful point of this series is just this topic.

Why would someone be so spineless and cowardly that they run away from a situation and even tell the police, and if the police do something about it, they regret it and miss it? It's so stupid. It's a waste of time to watch this series.

Just terrible
KittyG269 June 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I finally got round to watching this, because with all the rave reviews it had to be worth a look. How wrong was I?

The male lead, Donny, a horribly unfunny comedian, is such a feeble and dislikable character who makes the stupidest decisions possible at every turn. He's got this repulsive crazy woman stalking him, and yet time and again he fails to tell the truth about her to the people she is using to get to him. Even when she cons her way into his lodgings he doesn't immediately denounce her to his sympathetic landlady. When she attacks his former girlfriend, he doesn't do anything. When Martha enters the pub where he works, and from which she has been barred, he doesn't call the police. Nor does he do anything when she smashes a glass in his face. You're kidding, right?

We're also expected to believe Martha has recorded all their conversations. So when Donny surprises her in the street, she just happens to be recording? Really? Then she passes this on to the cops, so they don't believe Donny's complaints any more, even though the stalker has previous. I know the police sometimes do dumb things, but they really reach the heights in this show.

And the excuse for all Donny's stupid choices is that Martha gave him the admiration and self-affirmation he doesn't get from anybody else. Worth getting glassed for, obviously.

Stalking is a serious matter, but this badly-written series is not the vehicle to highlight it. This is just sensationalist rubbish, peopled with nasty characters. I wish I hadn't wasted my time.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
clynn-6037329 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Literally, it's stupid & I felt stupid watching it. Someone at work recommended it to all of us in the department. She described it as disturbing.

SPOILER: The main guy wants to be a professional comedian. He was not funny at all throughout the whole series. If I was watching a comedian perform these jokes, I would have changed the channel. Plus, I didn't find it disturbing. His judgement was way off on a lot of things. And the female? Completely off her rocker if she acted that way. But, stalkers tend to be weird & not trustworthy. Why did he waste his time with her? Why did I waste MY time watching it.

I literally told my daughter "Promise me you will never watch any of it. It is a complete waste of time". I've never ever said that before. She has 4 kids. Time is too precious to waste on this series. She's made some very good recommendations to me. I thought I should do her a favor & warn her. Just don't watch it.

I can't feel bad for him. Don't waste your time.
beck-795169 June 2024
A show about very damaged humans. It can be very triggering for sexual abuse survivors. The main character is the definition of being your own worst enemy. He needs a lot of therapy. I can't help but think he is exploiting his own experiences for money. This man could not make it in comedy and was obsessed with fame to the detriment of everything, his body, his health, his mind; it's sick. I felt more empathy for his "stalker." I think he was the true stalker when all was said & done. He brought so much of the drama and trauma to himself. Very hard to watch. I hope he gets the help he needs and enjoys his 15 minutes because there's not much there to sustain the fame he chases.
