Not Bad
FactsLogic6 October 2021
A lot of recent animated shows have been awful, duncanville, housebroken, central park.

Adult swim is pretty hit or miss, but this was a better show. It is not to weird like many of their programs and doesn't try and push a political narrative or desperately cling to current trends.

It's worth a watch for now in season 1.

Adult swim. A shell of its past glory.
chefseanaz19 October 2021
Another garbage animated show attempting to rehash other shows comedy. Is it really that hard to come up with original humor or creative writing. Hot garbage you should pass on.

Hauntingly poignant

Teenage Euthanasia is probably my favorite Adult Swim show for 2021. Here's why

Music 2/2 - for once, it has an actual theme song!! Thank God!! Theme songs are becoming really rare nowadays, especially for adult animated shows, and this show has a particularly beautiful one.

Voice Acting 2/2 - A lot of talent and emotion put into it.

Writing 2/2 The premise is quite interesting. It revolves around the revived corpse of a teenage mother, who now gets a chance to raise her unplanned child. It doesn't go for the cheap, easy, and overly offensive jokes that certain other adult cartoons do. It instead took a deep look into Trophy's past life.

Characters - 1/2 the reason I rated it a 1/2 is because we don't know much about the other characters as of now, but it still gets a point for Trophy alone.

Animation - 1/2 it's somewhat mediocre, but adult swim isn't known for having Disney-like animation so I'll let it slide this time. Plus, it doesn't have that certain generic style.

Overall, 8/10.

Not worth anyone's time.

Completely unfunny. The animation is very poor, loudly colored, and obnoxious. Many of the voice actors have very annoying voices. This show just seems like a big middle finger to the viewer, as if it's saying "Up yours, audience! You idiots will watch anything."

I think rating it an 8/10 is fair
TheSimpsonsss1 September 2022
I rated it a 10/10 because it deserves be higher than a 5.5. As I said I the title I think it's a good 8. It's definitely a unique show. Being set in a funeral home in the future is pretty unique, I haven't seen something like that which in my opinion cancels out the "risen from the dead" cliche of a main character. The character designs were also pretty cool, not really something I've seen before. I also found the characters really interesting, season 1 definitely gave us a good look at the characters and I'm hoping season 2 explores them more. The episodes to me are more along the lines of, let's say comfort episodes, where it's pretty easily to binge. I really liked it though. People that left a rating and review before watching all 7 episodes are toxic and should not be on this website. Just my opinion.

What Even Was This?
robinsonaustin-0749029 October 2021
Honestly, can't really say much about this show...I just don't know what to feel about it. Basically, it takes place in some futuristic town called Fort Gator, situated in Florida, about some teenage mother abandoning their daughter and running off. But 15 years later when she was divorced by her wealthy husband and died of an overdose, her body is taken to a funeral home called Tender Endings, where a combination of a bolt of lightning; embalming fluid; and her daughter's tear resurrected her as a sapient zombie who is able to control beetles. Won't say where they come from.

This being an adult swim show, the animation is...subpar. The character designs aren't necessarily "bad," but at the same time, they are uninspired. For instance, nearly every character has about the same character build: a round, oval face; neck shape, etc. It felt like they were more or less the prototypes of what the characters would look like in the final product. Despite it taking place in the future, the setting also feels boring not fully taking advantage of the aesthetic.

The titular Euthanasia Fantasy. I get that she is someone who would be an underdog, or a loser character...but can't say I love her because of how often she self-pities herself. It is not funny, not quirky. Oftentimes, it is hard to handle.

Trophy, however, is likely the worst character in the series. For all the "has a second chance to bond with her daughter," what bonding does she actually do? In one episode where her daughter goes birdwatching, she blows her off by swapping bodies with a corpse. In another, she forces a potential boyfriend of Annie's to die and end up trapped in Heaven (where he cannot have sex) just to prove that there was no afterlife. How about the time she practically poked fun at Annie's wish of knowing who her father was?

Really, Trophy is likely the most selfish character in western animation who only looks to sate her hedonism with little to no care as to whether her daughter is hurt or not. She sometimes even goes as far as to tear her down whether it be her looks or her awkwardness. Sure there are moments where she can be nice or act relatively motherly, but those are not outweighing the bad.

If there were some explanation as to why she is like this like maybe some traumatizing scenario in her past, then the show fails to depict it. In short, Trophy is probably one of the worst characters I have ever seen who is negligent, sometimes even verbally abusive towards her own daughter who she abandoned when she was still a baby of all things, and cares only able pleasuring herself.

Pete, Trophy's half-brother. He is a total loser and coward who is basically the "momma's boy" and that is it. There is nothing about him that is remotely interesting or compelling. The only character that I do at the least somewhat favor is Baba, but even then her basic character is "sell embalming fluid" or "work, work, work."

Really, hardly any adult swim show nowadays is genuinely good with this one being mediocre. I wanted to like the show and it seemed to have a promising premise (come to think of it, how many times has the show actually focused on the fact that Trophy is a zombie?). Instead, it has subpar animation and does not take advantage of the fact that they are in the future. The characters are either flat or unlikable, and ultimately amounts to being a time-waster.

HOT GARBAGE
cincilafurby4 October 2021
Nothing new, nothing original just like every modern adult animated series. Cheap animation, humor repetitive from other hot garbaged animated tv shows for adults. The story is poorly written and character designs are hideous. Waste of anmation.

Another Adult Swim dud
TalkingContradiction1 November 2021
Teenage Euthanasia feels like show that took random elements from past Adult Swim shows sucked the life and ingenuity out of them and then tried to glue them together with under cooked and unimaginative gross out/shock humor. The characters are too absurdly broad and one dimensional to work on an emotional level and the gross out humor is tepid to the point literally seems like the writers don't understand even fundamentals of using it. They out throw crotch beetles and expect the fact that concept is gross to inflict a laugh every time time the words are merely mentioned. Come on people: setup, payoff/subversion, call back. This show is sadly another unfunny loser from Adult Swim who really hasn't landed a good show since Final Space... which just got cancelled : (

Amazing Show! Hoping for Season 2 :)
sofeflower22 January 2022
I don't understand why the rating is so low when this show is pretty creative. The style, the plot, and the overall showmanship of it is wonderful. I will say some of the first few episodes might not be for everyone but hey that's the first few episodes ever! They got their flow in the last few episodes.

I really hope for a season 2 because it really shows a lot of potential for a funny adult swim shows in the midst of this awful set of few years for animated shows. Animation needs a revival and I think giving more shows like these chances keeps the animation community alive. If you're looking to get into this show I'd say watch the entire show start to finish before giving a review on it. It really will start to grow on you :)

Loud, uncomfortable and not funny.
budmerman28 September 2021
Bizarro animation that takes place in a funeral home that satires 21st century America. I turned off the 4th episode. I couldn't take the yelling and crying and the not funny. I'm done.

Who would like this? Maybe younger stoner women as the majority of characters are female and there is a lot of tech and popular online personality references but really, it isn't funny.

One of my favorite shows
SpaceOctopus5 August 2023
I was very concerned this show would be canceled - it's just dissapointing to see so many people here hating on it, and I hope enough people enjoy what to me is a another great, weird, gem of a show that is filled to the brim with uniqueness. Add to that, Maria Bamford's voice talent - and many others.

When I discovered this show, I was extremely joyful - it's got a charm - many shows these days lack and seem to try too hard to find and never do. Hoping that others discover this show and start to like it more, because Adult Swim seems to have this habit of canceling shows just because they aren't the most popular - but they never know what might become a cult classic.

I must be getting old, ...
dracforever6 August 2023
... or I just don't understand millennials. Normally, I try to give a new show the watch of a few episodes to give it a chance to find its stride. That being said, this is just another series in a long line of those poking fun at bad and/or absentee single parenting ... :-/

Why this is mainstream entertainment validating this situation is beyond me since, imho, it has been proven that this situation for raising children can have drastic negative impacts. It's either that or I'm a Gen X'er that just has zero understanding of Millennials. That said, I cannot recommend this series after watching the first six EP episodes, I say skip it.

Completely void of soul or any relatability
marcusbentontrucksales12 August 2023
Teenage Euthanasia is about a family that lives in a futuristic suburbia. This could've be a great setup for an adult swim series, but this one really falls flat.

I find it very difficult to even get through an episode. But I forced myself to watch 2 eps.

The music is good. The aesthetic is fine. The most crucial area in which Teenage Euthanasia fails is the writing.

Instead of having the characters do or say anything the audience can relate to, I feel like the writers are constantly asking, "What's the most ridiculous thing this character could say?" Or "What's the most random thing that could happen in this moment?" When you do this, nothing your characters do or say will ever come off as funny or shocking.

A show that used this type of humor in a smart way was China, Illinois. Even if you're going for "surreal", the characters still have to say or do things the audience can relate to.

In China, IL, If the school were to explode and the main characters were to die, I would be shocked. Thats because parts of China, IL are grounded in reality.

In Teenage Euthanasia, if the house were to explode and every character die, and I wouldn't bat an eye. It would mean nothing.

This show is a constant barrage of senseless nonsense that doesn't amount to anything. Grandma drives a crazy car. Ok. Grandma killed a kid for no reason. Oh no. Mom took a handful of pills. Wow.

But if Lois from Family guy took a handful of pills, it would matter. Even though Family Guy gets really wacky sometimes, we still care about Lois.

But I don't think any show is "doomed". And I always have hope that a series can turn it around if they know what to improve on. And I hope this show can do just that, because it does have some glimmers of potential.

I LOVED THIS SHOW
colincollin13 January 2022
I don't understand why it has so many bad reviews.. I give this show a 9 just to be fair; but it's a 10/10 for me, because the animations, the humor, and storylines are pretty dope. You can tell the creators and animators really took their time and have a cool concept! Really unique show, loved it!

SAVE IT BEFORE IT INEVITABLY GOES!!!
myidea4u22 July 2022
Within the past month, first Duncanville gets cancelled and then Close Enough gets cancelled. What's up next in the agenda of The Cancellations of 2022? Well, the answer to that question may very well be Teenage Euthanasia. This show has, throughout its life, been WAY more 'cancellable' than Duncanville or Close Enough ever were, which is extremely concerning and something that should ABSOLUTELY not be ignored!

That's not to say this show is bad, quite the contrary, it's actually really good, and is probably my most favourite recent animated show. It's just that this show has a bad reputation among many people who misunderstand it for what it is, which may very well lead to its cancellation.

Anyway, the point I'm getting at is to NOT take Teenage Euthanasia for granted and to make the most of it while it's still ongoing! Season 2 has been renewed, which is a good start, but will Season 3 be renewed? That's a question that worries me every single day. I really hope it does, but then there's a chance it won't.

Rough edges, but had something unique to say
beesheppard12 September 2023
Give it a minute to get its footing. This is the only show that deals directly with a mother-daughter relationship where the mom is a malignant narcissist.

It's rough around the edges and crass, but it has something legitimate to say and deserves the time to get to say it. I hope it isn't cancelled before it has the chance to blossom into its potential.

I first became aware of the existence of this cartoon when I was looking to see what projects the incomparable talent Maria Bamford had been occupying herself with lately. This show is a worthwhile investment of her time. I hope that enough people recognize its charm and give it a chance so that it isn't one of the good ideas that gets discarded before it has the opportunity to say something worthwhile. At this point, s02e07, it feels that it's just starting to turn the corner.

Loved it, wishing for second season
Rootbear117 January 2022
I don't understand the hate. Thought it was a fun, creative show that really fits the Adult Swim profile. I am hoping for a second season but am guessing that won't be happening anytime soon.

Addendum... Second season is here!! Even better than the first. Please Adult Swim keep this GEM of a show going for as long as the voice talent is ready and willing.

The Answer to Adult Animation Woes
kannetidwell21 January 2024
I truly love this series. For those of you who miss Ugly Americans or the original days of South Park, you'll enjoy this show. The character dynamics are new and interesting, it isn't overly preachy, and there are many funny moments. The mix of snark, series jokes, and outlandishing hijinks are extremely entertaining. Personally, I enjoy all of the depictions of Annie's school and young world in this futuristic Florida setting. For it's critics; if the only adult animation you like is ball jokes and characters where everyone has the same base figure then you might need to stick with Big Mouth's dying descent.

Creative with a creepy twist
srsilva-1929331 August 2023
I love this show. It's one of my favorites. May I add that I love adult cartoons. Some thing about this one is just funny without having to get it right away. There is a lot of reference to the way societies turned out in the last 10 years. I love Trophy and Annie but my favorite is actually Baba and Uncle Pete. There's a lot of comedy behind those two characters revolving around the main story. I love how the plots of the show are also very out there and random! A lot of people think it's stupid but I actually think it's pretty witty and creative! I think it would be a perfect show for Halloween season, so let's try to bring a 3rd season next year during the fall!!! I'll be here for that!
