- Jefferson is feeling even more lost after a frustrating therapy session; Anissa continues to care for a still comatose Grace; Lynn has a breakthrough.

- Jeff comes downstairs and finds Tobias in his dining room. He blasts Tobias, who shrugs off the lightning and beats Jeff, then taunts him.

Jeff finishes describing his dream to his therapist, and says that he has the same dream every night. The therapist says that if Jeff wants to unravel the meaning of the dream, he has to put in the work. Jeff figures that no matter how he tries to protect his family, it's always going to end in tragedy, like before the war. The therapist figures that he's deflecting, and Jeff says that he can't be the man he thought he was who believed he could change the world. He tells the therapist that he can't live with that man's decisions, but without that man he doesn't know who he is.
Lala goes to the underground fight club that he runs as part of the 100, and Devonte tells him that it's successful. The crime boss is thrilled that the audience is virtual and there's no crowd to distract the two fighters. One of the fighters, Behemoth, beats the other one and Lala tells Devonte to pay him and let him know he's fighting next.
Lala and Devonte go to the office where Lydell is waiting. Lydell is on crutches from the broken foot he got in the break-in, and Lala tells him to give an explanation. Lydell says that Black Lightning attacked him, and Lala says that he doesn't care and wants to know why Lydell killed a kid, because it draws attention. Lydell says that he was protecting Lala's interests and it was nothing personal. Lala says that he was thinking the same thing and beats Lydell, then moans in pain as the tattoo on his right hand burns. Once it stops, Lala tells Devonte to "take out the trash.
Lynn is soaking in the bathtub, using Lightning's power from her blood sample to heal her recent injuries. Jeff comes in and asks what she's doing, and Lynn tells him that she's not emitting sparks in water. She says that she wants to understand Jennifer's rate of recovery, but Jeff doesn't believe her. Jeff says that Lynn isn't like them, and Lynn insists that it's about protecting their daughters. Jeff reminds her that she asked him to stop being Black Lightning ten years ago, and says that she's a hypocrite.
Lynn tells him that she'll stop when he puts the suit back on. Jeff tells her that she won't, and he wants no part of her being a "weekend warrior".
On the news, Rebecca Larsen gives a report on how Lightning and other metas are destroying parts of the city and costing millions of dollars. Jennifer, Anissa, and Lynn are watching the TV. Jennifer turns off the TV, and Lynn points out that she can't fix edited footage. Anissa tries to tell her to be more covert, and Jennifer points out that Thunder leaves a lot of collateral damage where she goes. Lynn tells them that she doesn't want to hear more arguments after what she went through with Jeff, and just wants to hear an apology from them. Anissa agrees with Lynn and goes to check on Grace, and Jennifer complains to Lynn that all she wanted to do was save families.
Lauren takes Peter goes with Lauren to Monovista and shows him the DEGs that the company is ready to release. Peter asks if they're safe for mass-market since they're lethal to humans and metas, and Lauren admits that they are but she had a stun setting installed.
At the high school, Jeff finds Marcel at the vending machines. He's surprised to see Marcel back at work so soon after losing his son, and Marcel says that he has to work and get his children back from Child Services. Marcel is bruised, but tells Jeff that it's nothing to worry about. Jeff asks if he got it from attacking the 100, and Marcel tells him that he's working as a bounce to supplement his income.
Anissa gives the comatose Grace a sponge bath and says that as Thunder she buildings something for the community without violence. She tells Grace that she misses her, and begs her to give her a sign so she can know they have a future together. Grace flatlines and starts to shapechange, then wakes up and Anissa takes her face in her hands.
At the school, Jennifer meets with TC and they discuss the Larsen footage. She wants TC to find the ASA footage so she can clear Thunder's name. TC wonders what the point is, but Jennifer says that they can't let meta hatred spread. The other meta agrees and uses his powers on her phone. He comes up with the name "Terry Andrews" and gives it to Jennifer, and tells her not to do something rash.
Lynn meets with the therapist and says that nothing has changed since they lost time she talks. She asks why Lynn is working at Garfield, and says that her family has a service with the military. The therapist asks why Lynn became a doctor rather than a soldier, and Lynn admits that it sometimes makes her feel like an outsider but figure her parents made the right choice.
The therapist points out that Lynn is a world-renowned geneticist, and teaching night school. Lynn says that Jeff and their girls have shared experiences, and they've told her she's a liability and doesn't belong. She realizes that she's trying to fit in where she doesn't belong again, like she couldn't when she was young, Lynn figures that's the seed of her addiction, and the therapist tells her to be just herself and own it.
That night, Jeff follows Marcel to the fight club. Devonte lets Marcel in the back, and Jeff goes in afterward. Lala comes out when he sees Jeff, and tells Jeff that it's the illegal cage fight of the future. Jeff says that Marcel isn't a fight and he doesn't want him hurt, and Lala says that Marcel has cost him money every night that he fights.
Lala insists that he's just providing a service people want, and refuses to shut the fight down when Jeff tell him to. The crime lord tells Jeff to fight or get out, as Behemoth beats Marcel. Marcel sees Jeff, and Jeff tells Lala that he'll fight.
Tobias has his Red bring Mayor Black in, and says that he has an offer for Black. It will need money, and it can only be gained through his new hospital. Black says that there's no room in the budget for a new hospital, and Tobias suggests that there is if Black diverts Garfield's budget. Black objects, noting the school is a pillar of the community, and Tobias tells him that soon Black's children will go to an exclusive school in Metropolis.
Black adamantly refuses, and leaves on his own. Red asks of Tobias wants him to kill Black, and Tobias says not yet.
Lightning soars up above the clouds and absorbs energy. She then flies down and confronts Terry as he walks home, and is surprised that Terry is a young boy. Lightning says that the footage he gave to Larsen was trash, and Terry agrees but says that he wouldn't have given Larsen the footage if he knew what she was going to do with it. He expresses his admiration for Lightning, and she tells him to show the world what really happened. Lightning have Terry give her his phone with the footage, and he offers to post the real footage on social media if he can get a selfie with her. She agrees and Terry takes the selfie.
Peter "borrows" one of the DEGs and takes it to his lab, where TC is waiting. The older man says that he'll smuggle it back in after he runs some tests, and wants TC to analyze it with his powers. TC does so and tells Peter that the DEG is emitting a strange power signature. Peter sets the DEG on its lower setting and fires it at a dummy, and the beam burns through the chest of the Black Lightning suit that it's wear.
Jeff takes Marcel's place in the arena, and faces off against Behemoth. Behemoth beats Jeff down, and Devonte warns Lala that Behemoth will kill Jeff. Lala doesn't believe it, and in the ring Jeff's eyes glows with electricity and he climbs to his feet. Jeff tells Behemoth that they're not done, throws him to the floor, and finally knocks the fighter out. Marcel is watching from the sidelines, nursing his wounds, as Jeff gets to his feet and raises his arms in triumph.
Later, Jeff takes Marcel to his home and tells the teacher that he can stay there until he gets back on his feet. Marcel says that he's never seen anyone fight like Jeff, and Jeff gives Marcel the prize money. When Marcel refuses to take it, Jeff tells him that Lala cheated and Marcel earned it. Marcel gives Jeff the money back and says that it's a payment on the rent for Jeff letting him stay there, and Jeff takes it back. Jeff offers to put in a good word with Child Services, but tells Marcel not to fight again. He gives Marcel a house key and leaves.
The next morning, Anissa gives Lynn flowers that were delivered to the house. The card is an invitation to dinner, and Lynn assumes that it's from Jeff.
In the workshop, Peter takes apart the DEG and Jeff comes in. He asks about the DEG, and Peter warns that not even the new Black Lightning suit could withstand a direct hit. Jeff invites Peter to shoot the gun at him, but insists on not wearing his suit. He's chipper that he helped someone as himself, and Peter tells him that he can't just stop being Black Lightning. Jeff insists that he's done as Black Lightning, and tells Peter that it's time for him to try and make things right with Lynn.
Lynn arrives at the restaurant and finds Tobias waiting for her. He admits that he sent the flowers and the invitation, and tells Lynn that he'll tell the people of Freeland about her family's "extracurricular activities" if she doesn't have dinner with him. Lynn reluctantly sits down, and Tobias admits that he kept the note vague because he knew Lynn wouldn't come if he knew he was sending the invitation.
Tobias says that he needs a favor for the sufferers of ALS. His sister died of the side effects, and he promised his cure. Tobias wants the best, and is willing to pay for the best. He offers to fund Lynn's new institute for the new decade if she agrees to focus on an ALS cure. Lynn asks what Tobias realty wants, and Tobias insists that he's telling the truth. He says that Lynn isn't like the rest of her family, and he needs her to be herself.
Jeff returns home and finds the flowers and invitation that Tobias sent Lynn. Unaware of who sent them, Jeff heads to the restaurant.
Jennifer arrives at the lair, and TC tells her that she looks exhausted. She explains that when she flies to the ionosphere to recharge, it usually leaves her exhausted. Jennifer insists that she's fine, and charges her arm up while TC finishes setting her secured page up on social media. TC warns that she can't go back once she sends the video, and she says that she can handle it and hits 'Return'. Lightning immediately gets followers and Terry posts the unedited video, and Jennifer is happy that she controls her narrative now.
Anissa and Darius go to see Grace in her hospital bed, and Anissa tells Grace that they're getting married. She paid Darius $20 to get ordained online, and Anissa figures that it's about the two of them, rather than her family, so she didn't invite them. Anissa proposes to Grace, and Grace accepts. Darius marries them, and the brides kiss.
Jeff arrives at the restaurant and the maître d' tells him that his party is already there. Jeff goes to the table and see Lynn with Tobias. They don't see him, and Jeff turns and walks out.
