OK movie to watch, worth to check it out

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a decent attempt at portraying a very human story. Sure, it is an old story and it may have been told many times before, but I don't see many new stories out there in Hollywood movies these days anyway. E.g. 2012 (another end of the world movie? come on...) I believe the film succeeds in presenting the emotions of a young immature couple that has to make a life changing decision, but I wasn't happy about the side stories, which kind of distracted me from the main theme. Acting was OK, definitely not Oscar winning stuff, but hey, I don't believe there was a lot of budget to make this movie, and still, it kept me sitting down for the entire movie.

Gestacion is Good Film!

Warning: Spoilers
I think this is a comment from a person who believes that Hollywood movies only deserve the attention of the public, if after 30 minutes wanted to leave because he did not; to me if I dislike a movie from the start I just go, perhaps the if history has been told many times but you have to see the full context of it and not parties. In Costa Rica there have been other films that probably has the poster of International Festivals and Gestation not likely to be, but because I like it or not does not mean I have to discredit the work of Esteban Ramirez is a good movie and there to recognize the talent of Producers and Cast. If you can see, and everyone finds it.

Great peek into the Costa Rican culture.

As an American who has a deep love for Costa Rica, I found Gestation to be a wonderful movie that captured some of the soul of Costa Rica. The look, the language, the feel were pure Tico. Teenage pregnancy is a common theme, but it was handled deftly in this movie addressing many of the complications from economic disparity to religion to family and social impact. The movie is very sweet and has real heart. I am not a native speaker but I watched it in Spanish and enjoyed the pure Tico dialect. I thought the casting was superb and the actors could probably work anywhere. I would hope to see more film work coming out of this beautiful but tiny country.

Based on a true story

This is a true story of what a young girl went through when finding out she was pregnant while still a student. While there are many movies of teen pregnancy out there, this one shows the story of a girl in a very catholic country. There are situations that leave you in disbelief, but that is exactly why the film had such an impact, as that is what happened to the girl behind the story.

There are characters in the movie that are very memorable. The film definitely made the city a character of the movie and it plays a part in the story. In Costa Rica, we definitely felt connected to the film because of how it displayed our way of life, our lingo and our capital.

an attempt at making "proffessional movies" in Costa Rica
hamarenco11 November 2009
This is a bad film. If you must see it, rent it. Not worth the paying price.

The story is pretty straightforward: young couple gets pregnant, then decides what to do about their precarious situation. This story has been told so many times it's not even amusing anymore. In fact, the writer of the script takes advantage of this fact (or completely ignores it - it's anybody's guess) and includes some pretty unrealistic situations in the film.

But the point of all this is that the movie is not made to tell a story - it's made to sell Costa Rican film to the outside world. And make it look professional in the process (If you check out the trailer, it in fact elicits more emotion than the movie and looks nicer too...). so what we have here is a film that looks good on screen with a poorly written script that makes your head spin. I wanted to get out of the theater 30 min into it...

Based on real facts
jvalverdec10 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Gestation is a film produced in Costa Rica, without more pretensions than to relate, 'a la tica' , an embarrassing incident that involves a school of fundamentalist nuns whom they try to hide reality of the infantile pregnancy with some fascist measures - these are 'real fact' -. Nevertheless the film does not hook with such idea: it digresses in one first part, repetitive and tired, on the morals, familiar an economic conflicts who suppose to assume the consequences of the pregnancy non wished. One second part, 'based on real facts' , better obtained but at which one as watching one arrives tired, waiting for a end that does not appear, reason why its wide-awake development little interest, losing itself, also, the attention in which it is created is the intention of the producer: to relate to us what happened in a school deprived of an elementary humanity towards a student, the intervention of the Ombusdman and later 'correction' of the nuns derived from such intervention. Thus, of the producer it deserves to rescue his impetus to make national cinema, this is his second film, but, thing common in some national productions, with plot slips and poor actor direction.
