The movie which Dr. Ref'at Ismaeel and Huwayda are watching in the movie theatre "The Lamp of Umm Hashim" - "Qandeel Umm Hashim" is a reflection to the dilemma Dr. Ref'at is facing throughout the series. Dr. Ref'at tends to think rationally, disregarding all believes in unnatural events. He studied abroad and came back to benefit his own community of what his science and knowledge. This displays the huge similarity between Dr. Ref'at and the protagonist of the movie 'Ismaeel' who is an ophthalmologist, studied abroad and returned to help patients in his poor community, only to face people that reject his scientific methods, believing that the oil in 'The lamp of umm hashim' could cure eye diseases.
When Huwayda says to Dr. Ref'at in the movie theatre that "The novel is much better than the movie" it is actually the opinion of the director and most of the 'paranormal' fans concerning the comparison between the novels Dr. Ahmed Khaled Tawfeek wrote and the series interpretation on screen.
