With the 3rd generation of John Shaft in theaters now, Mike Wendt and Liam Stryker thought it would be fitting to take a look back at the previous two films of the same name. The original SHAFT from 1971, starring Richard Roundtree, and the 2000 film starring Samuel L. Jackson - SHAFT. Can ya dig it? -- SHAFT (1971) -- John Shaft (Richard Roundtree) is the ultimate in suave black detectives. He first finds himself up against Bumpy (Moses Gunn), the leader of the black crime mob, then against black nationals, and finally working with both against the white mafia who are trying to blackmail Bumpy by kidnapping his daughter. -- SHAFT (2000) -- Crooked cops on the take -- small-time drug lords -- sleazy informers and sadistic rich kids ready to kill --- for police detective John Shaft, its just another night in the underbelly of New York City, another shift facing down cops and criminals who want him dead and a legal system that thrives on money, not justice.
