seriously good fun with cars
I've watch every episode of old and new Top Gear, and all of the Grand Tour episodes. Car Trek is taking up the mantle of the American version of these shows in a fantastic way.
Ed Bolian, host of VinWiki on YouTube, is a well spoken gent who got his start in cars by owning a rental service where people could rent uber high end cars, like Lambos and Ferraris. VinWiki hosts amazing and true car stories from around the world, as told by the people who were there.
Tyler Hoover, host of Hoovie's Garage on YouTube (quote: "the dumbest automotive channel on YouTube"), got his start on his channel by opening a failed used car lot. Nowadays he buys and sells really crazy cars, including OJ Simpson White Bronco replicas and old Aston Martins. He's silly and really enthusiastic about what he does. Lots of fun.
Freddy Tavarish Hernandez is a popular YouTuber on his channel, Tavarish, where he buys wrecked super- and hyper-cars, fixes them when the dealerships say it can't be done, and then owns some of the most spectacular cars on the planet. He's silly, sarcastic, and has a small cast of friends and experts that help him in his builds.
Additional "characters" to the show are:
John Ficarra, renowned car enthusiast and trader, in many episodes to "appraise" the cars that the trio have bought.
Car Weezard, David Long, is the owner of Omega Auto Clinic in central Kansas, specializing in high end cars, like Bentley, Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, etc. He's extremely knowledgeable on all things automotive. He comes in several times to inspect the cars on the show and see if they might need maintenance or repair prior to embarking on the challenges. He hosts his own YouTube channel as well, the Car Wizard.
And Jared Pink. He's a good friend, and prior channel partner with Freddy Tavarish. They used to host a channel together called Wrench Every Day. The two split channels eventually to pursue different ideals, and Jared now hosts The Questionable Garage on YouTube, where he builds very questionable vehicles for fun. He's an expert technician, much like the Weezard, and also acts as the main mechanic and vehicle transporter for the show, as he has a 1 ton GMC truck and big trailer, and a host of tools, to keep the project cars going during the filming shoots. He also pops in for guest spots in the filming as a test driver, or as Crazy Santa, in one of the earlier series.
I've seen every episode as of November 2023, and they are all extremely enjoyable, with new challenges, interesting cars, and stunning drives. The quality of the production keeps getting better as time goes, I'm guessing due to increased budget, etc.
Overall, the show has an excellent Top Gear and Grand Tour Road Trip feel to it. The trio get along fantastically, lots of humor and banter between them. They do projects together outside of the Car Trek series as well, so they are truly friends when the camera is shut off. And that shows on screen.
Highly recommended series, especially when there are many worldly things that force us to be stuck in-doors, when we consume content at a record pace. This is a great time suck! If you are even the slightest of a petrol-head, you will enjoy this series!
