- Father and mother on the farm decide to send a box of goodies to their son Charlie, who is at college in a small town. They get everything together on a table and discover that they have no case to pack it in. Father drives to a nearby factory which happens to be a powder works, gets a case and takes it home, not noticing stenciling on the case, "Dynamite. Handle With Care." The case is packed and expressed. Pictures then show the careful horror with which the case is handled at the various transfer points. The case arrives at the express office of the college town. The express agent, frightened, does unusual things to insure his safety. He 'phones to the mayor-constable-justice of the peace, head of the college, Charlie and the local fire brigade. All arrive and fearfully examine the case. It is decided that the case must be opened. The victim is balloted for; the constable is chosen. Charlie having received the letter from home, appreciates the joke, further terrifies the community and generally helps the fun along. Night interrupts the operations. The constable is appointed night watchman, and goes to sleep. In the meantime, Charlie has let his pals in on the secret, describing and imitating the horror of the bystanders. The boys rig up as highwaymen, hold up and bind the constable and steal the box. The constable is terrified at their manner of handling the box. The boys take the box to Charlie's room and open it in pretended terror and gleefully prepare for the feed. The mayor, taking his family out for a walk, brings them to station to show them the box. They discover and free the constable. All are horrified at the loss of the box and rush to the village hall and ring the town bell and assemble the citizens. There is an excited gathering of citizens about the loss of the box. All depart to inform Charlie. They wake up the head of the college. They all go to Charlie's room and find the boys at the feed, with the incriminating box cover occupying a prominent place on the wall.—Moving Picture World synopsis
